Synopsis A Manual of Paper Chromatography and Paper Electrophoresis by : Richard J. Block
A Manual of Paper Chromatography and Paper Electrophoresis provides a comprehensive discussion of the techniques of paper chromatography and paper electrophoresis. The book is organized into two parts. Part I on paper chromatography provides a readily accessible source for some of the many uses and adaptations of paper chromatography. An effort has been made to write a practical manual in which tried and proved procedures, employing relatively simple equipment and available reagents, are summarized. Part II on paper electrophoresis discusses basic principles and methodology. The emphasis throughout has been on the separation of protein mixtures, particularly blood serum. This reflects the fact that it is in this particular application that paper electrophoresis has thus far not been challenged by paper chromatography, whereas many of the smaller molecules can be resolved equally well or better by the thus far more widely employed chromatographic procedures.

Synopsis Bioanalytical Chemistry by : Susan R. Mikkelsen
Bioanalytical Chemistry provides a thorough introduction for students and practitioners with a broad range of backgrounds from chemistry to medicine. In so doing, it brings together many of the techniques commonly used by biochemists and molecular biologists. The text includes entire chapters on design and implementation of enzyme assays; mass spectrometry; and validation of new methods. Each chapter progresses from basic concepts to applications involving real samples, and ends with a set of problems, while an appendix contains selected answers. The authors have limited mathematical derivations to those that are essential for an understanding of each method and they include a list of suggested reading for further information. This textbook provides an ideal companion for students, researchers, and industrial scientists working in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, and medicine.

Synopsis Landmark Papers in Clinical Chemistry by : Richard M. Rocco
This is the first major review of the developments in clinical laboratory science in the 20th century presented in the words of the original inventors and discoverers. Introductory comments by the editor help place the works within the historical context.Landmark Papers addresses:*The origin of the home pregnancy test available today in every drugstore*The woman who invented a billion dollar technology, refused to patent it and went on to win a Nobel Prize*The scientists who worked on the US Government's crash program at the start of WWII to find a substitute for the malaria drug quinine*The blood test used to monitor the effectiveness of cholesterol lowering drugs that today are taken by over 20 million patients*The graduate student who invented a technology for testing for infectious diseases, took it to Africa to screen people for malaria for the first time and which is now used to test for HIV infection world-wide*The invention of molecular diagnostics by Linus Pauling and the road to individualized medicine*The development of the glucose meter used by diabetics up to six times a day to monitor their metabolic control*First book of this kind dedicated to clinical chemistry*Thirty-nine articles that have shaped the field today*A survey of the major developments in the field clinical chemistry in the 20th century

Synopsis Zone Electrophoresis by : Ivor Smith
Chromatographic & Electrophoretic Techniques, Fourth Edition, Volume II: Zone Electrophoresis presents the methods of zone electrophoresis. This book discusses all the techniques that can be applied routinely. Organized into 17 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the fundamental principle of zone electrophoresis. This text then examines the apparatus in common use for paper electrophoresis and discusses paper electrophoresis at low voltages. Other chapters describe the apparatus that combines several advantages resulting from high voltage paper electrophoresis and thin-layer chromatography. This book discusses as well the advantages of cellulose acetate membrane filter paper as a supporting medium for zone electrophoresis. The final chapter deals with preparative acrylamide gel electrophoresis on a small scale, which may involve either continuous electrophoretic elution or extraction of the RNA from zones cut out of the gel. This book is a valuable resource for biochemists, clinical chemists, clinicians, technicians, biophysicists, pathologists, and medical researchers.
