Synopsis Development of Renewable Energy Resources for Sustainable Energy Use in Nigeria by : Olotu Yahaya
This review examines the potentials of renewable energy resources in Nigeria which is aimed at reducing dependence on the carbon-based energy sources. The theoretical and technical potentials of renewable energy resources (solar radiation, biogas, wind, and hydropower energy) indicated that Nigeria has strong potential of meeting energy demand for agricultural, domestic and industrial without relying on fossil fuel. An average daily solar radiation (Rs) and wind energy of 12.1MJ/m2 to 28.5 MJ/m2, 3.3 m/s to 7.0 m/s in the coastal to the northern part of the country could generate 427,000MW, hydropower, biogas and wind energy were estimated to have energy potentials of 11,000MW and 6.6 million (m3) of biogas daily. The CO2 emits from renewable energy source is very low when compared with the conventional energy source and this makes it to be environmentally and human friendly. The current energy stress in Nigeria can be improved by formulating robust energy-based policies and researches capable of achieving some level of renewable energy development. Thus, strong internship between the developed world where lot of discoveries and breakthrough had made on the subject matter and developing is greatly encouraged.

Synopsis Challenges and Opportunities of Sustainable Electricity Access in Nigeria by : Emmanuel Odoyi
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Energy Sciences, grade: 1.7, University of Applied Sciences Berlin (Engineering), course: Sustainable Development, language: English, abstract: Electricity is an important feature for economic development. The necessity lies in the fact that electricity affects every aspect of our economy. Nigeria should aim towards sustainable electricity access to its citizens. Nigeria must have a stable electrical energy supply to meet the market, basic needs of the people. A nation whose energy supply is not reliable does not help in the development of the national economy. Nigeria is a nation with more than 162 million inhabitants with less electric access to both rural and urban areas. This study has reviewed and analyzed the challenges and opportunities facing Electricity Access in Nigeria. The study has employed approach to good features of sustainable development system in the Nigerian electrical energy sector by proposing a sustainable strategies and alternatives for energy access through the use of solar power, wind and hydro power, and Bio-mass . Also, the study clearly explained and analyzed the problems facing the electricity in Nigeria. Thus, this study has used literature review methods, to gather information’s on Energy Sector in general and existing literatures on the Nigeria Energy Sector as well as a SWOT/PEST Matrix of the Nigerian Energy sector.

Synopsis Energy Management for Sustainable Development by : Soner Gokten
We are more aware of the need to achieve sustainable development than ever before. It is fair to say that two of the most important factors affecting sustainability are the ways of both producing and using energy. In this sense, this book provides a forum to articulate and discuss energy management issues in the frame of achieving sustainable development. And undoubtedly, we are also deeply concerned about these issues in the recent times. This volume contains 6 chapters and is organized into three sections: "Policies and Strategies", and "Technologies and Industries".

Synopsis Energy Policies for Sustainable Development Strategies by : Nnaemeka Vincent Emodi
In this book, a number of long-term energy scenarios are developed for Nigeria considering the impact of vital factors that may influence energy policies in the country’s future energy system. The energy scenarios were developed through the Long-Range Energy Alternatives Planning System (LEAP) model. The model identified the future energy demand and supply pattern using a least-cost combination of technology options while limiting the emission of greenhouse gases. The book presents four scenarios, and key parameters considered include GDP, households, population, urbanization and the growth rates of energy-intensive sectors. Further, it highlights the findings of the cost-benefit analysis, which reveal the costs of implementing selected policies and strategies in Nigeria, including those focusing on energy efficiency and fuel/technology switching. The book also discusses the application of the LEAP-OSeMOSYS Model in order to identify lowest-cost power plants for electricity generation. Some sustainable strategies that can ensure a low carbon development in Nigeria are also explored on the basis of successful country cases in relation to the Nigerian LEAP model. As such, the book will help policy makers devise energy and sustainable strategies to achieve low carbon development in Nigeria.

Synopsis Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) by : Jenniver Sehring
This working paper gives an overview of Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), a method that enables systematic cross-case comparison of an intermediate number of case studies. It presents an overview of QCA and detailed descriptions of different versions of the method. Based on the experience applying QCA to CIFORs Global Comparative Study on REDD+, the paper shows how QCA can help produce parsimonious and stringent research results from a multitude of in-depth case studies developed by numerous researchers. QCA can be used as a structuring tool that allows researchers to share understanding and produce coherent data, as well as a tool for making inferences usable for policy advice. REDD+ is still a young policy domain, and it is a very dynamic one. Currently, the benefits of QCA result mainly from the fact that it helps researchers to organize the evidence generated. However, with further and more differentiated case knowledge, and more countries achieving desired outcomes, QCA has the potential to deliver robust analysis that allows the provision of information, guidance and recommendations to ensure carbon-effective, cost-efficient and equitable REDD+ policy design and implementation

Synopsis The Establishment of a Legal Framework for the Sustainable Development of Renewable Energy in Nigeria by : Shehu Usman Yamusa (II.)
Nigeria has abundance of untapped sources of energy and, at the same time, it suffers from inadequacy of fossil fuel for the generation of electricity. Its energy generation values are diminishing very much and very fast. Therefore, slowing development will not bring foreign ideas and cultures that appear to be suitable for the sustainable development in renewable energy. The National Energy Policy and Action Plan need to be reviewed since 2007. Energy generation is barely very low with only 4,000 MW at the moment. The environmental issues in the oil production areas are alarming for more than 50 years as gas flaring is still on in the country. Therefore, there is a need for viable reform in the energy sector to bring about the development of sustainable energy through the diversification of energy sources. This work has proposed a viable framework that will establish a legal and institutional framework for the sustainable development of renewable energy in Nigeria. In achieving the set objective, this research adopts the doctrinal legal research methods, i.e. qualitative research. Primary and secondary materials have been examined to see how Nigeria with abundant sources of energy can also generate electricity in the country for sustainable development. Meanwhile, Malaysia, Netherlands and India are closely studied in the areas where Nigeria can adopt to improve it energy generation. Finally, this research discusses relevant laws and policies relating to planning, and energy generation for the diversification of energy sources that will bring sustainable energy in the country.

Synopsis The Future of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by : Samuel O. Idowu
This book provides a business-oriented analysis of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In order to assess their impact on businesses and corporations, the book addresses all 17 goals and a broad range of industries. Gathering contributions from Africa, Europe and Asia, it presents both critical reviews and case studies. In turn, the book seeks to predict likely developments during the next decade. To do so, it examines evidence from today’s business world and how companies and corporations have been adopting the SDGs since their release. In this regard, it discusses the changes that will be required and how the agenda will affect the continent’s development path. An underlying theme throughout the book is the role of monetary value and investment for sustainable development: whether through financing, enhanced turnaround resulting from a more educated population, or more socially innovative entrepreneurs.
