One of the most storied aircraft of WWII, the Vought F4U-4 Corsair was the first single engine production aircraft capable of 400 mph in level flight. With its characteristic gull wing and giant 18-cylinder Double Wasp engine, it proved a superb fighter in the Pacific Theater and achieved victory ratio approaching 11 to 1. The exploits of the famed Black Sheep Squadron of Corsairs was recounted by their leader, Marine fighter ace Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, in the book "Baa Baa Black Sheep." This Flight Operating Instructions manual taught pilots everything they needed to know before climbing into the cockpit. Originally classified "Restricted," the manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. This revised version includes an original assembly breakdown manual as an appendix.

The Grumman F8F Bearcat was designed to defeat the nimble Japanese fighter aircraft that appeared at the end of WWII. The conflict ended before the Bearcat could be placed into service, and althought it eventually saw combat with the French in the Indo-China war, it never flew in harm¿s way in the U.S. Navy. One of the best piston-powered fighters ever built, the F8F could achieve a cruising speed of over 420 mph. In 1946 a Bearcat set a time-to-climb record of 10,000 feet in 94 seconds, a feat not matched until the advent of high-performance jet fighters nearly a decade later. Originally printed by Grumman and the U.S. Navy, this Flight Operating Handbook taught pilots everything they needed to know before entering the cockpit. Classified ¿Restricted¿, the manual was declassified and is here reprinted in book form. This affordable facsimile has been slightly reformatted. Care has been taken however to preserve the integrity of the text.

One of the only aircraft to fly and fight in three wars ' World War II, Korea and Vietnam ' the Douglas A-26 Invader earned a reputation for its durability under fire. First flown in 1942, the Invader (known after 1948 as the B-26) featured a single pilot, with a navigator / bombardier sitting in the co-pilot's position. Many B-26's served as transport and fire-fighting aircraft after their combat service. This reproduction of an original A-26 Pilot's Flight Manual gives a rare glimpse into the cockpit of this warbird.
