The aim of this interdisciplinary conference was to bring together experts in quantum field theory and condensed matter physics to survey the latest exciting developments in this border-line field, such as the Chern-Simons field theory and quantum hall effect, anyon superconductivity, Yang-Baxter equations and quantum groups, conformal field theory and multi-channel kondo effect, matrix models and quantum gravity, etc.This set of proceedings contains brief reviews contributed by leading experts in the field.

The proceedings reflect a broad spectrum of topics in contemporary theoretical physics: quantum aspects of black holes; recent progress in critical and noncritical string theory; spin chains quantum hall effect and generalized statistics; stochastic dynamics turbulence and reaction kinetics; foundations of quantum mechanics; new statistics in field theory; quantum field theory on Riemann surfaces and knot theory; lattice field theories. The lectures present developments in the frontiers of these subjects and provide interdisciplinary links between the areas.

This textbook systematically presents fundamental methods of statistical analysis: from probability and statistical distributions, through basic concepts of statistical inference, to a collection of methods of analysis useful for scientific research. It is rich in tables, diagrams, and examples, in addition to theoretical justification of the methods of analysis introduced. Each chapter has a section entitled “Exercises and Problems” to accompany the text. There are altogether about 300 exercises and problems, answers to the selected problems are given. A section entitled “Proof of the Results in This Chapter” in each chapter provides interested readers with material for further study.
