Synopsis Parly Road by : Ian Todd

It is the summer of 1965 and things are looking up for ten-year-old Johnboy Taylor in the Townhead district of Glasgow. Not only has he made two new pals, but their dream of owning their own pigeon loft or 'dookit' and competing with the city's grown-up 'doo-men' in the sport they love, could soon become a reality. The only problem is that The Mankys don't have the dosh to pay for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Lady Luck begins to shine down on them when Pay Molloy, aka The Big Man, one of Glasgow's top heavies askes them to do him a wee favour. The Mankys are soon embroiled in an adult world of gangsters, police corruption, violence and crime.

Synopsis The Stones and the Stars by : Duncan Lunan

There are at least 48 identified prehistoric stone circles in Scotland. In truth, very little is known about the people who erected them, and ultimately about what the stone circles were for. Most stone circles are astronomically aligned, which has led to the modern debate about why the alignment was significant. The megaliths certainly represented an enormous co-operative effort, would at the very least have demonstrated power and wealth, and being set away from any dwellings probably served a ceremonial, or perhaps religious, purpose. Observations at the site of the stone circles, of solar, lunar, and stellar events, have already cast light on some of the questions about the construction and use of ancient megalithic observatories. In his capacity as manager of the Parks Department Astronomy Project, author Duncan Lunan designed and built the first astronomically aligned stone circle in Britain in over 3,000 years. 'The Stones and the Stars' examines the case for astronomical alignments of stone circles, and charts the development of a fascinating project with a strong scientific and historical background. The work was documented in detail by the artist and photographer Gavin Roberts, and this archive has been added to since - so an appropriate selection of illustrations will bring the project vividly to life.

Synopsis The Complete Patter by : Michael Munro

A highly entertaining A-to-Z guide to the unique dialect of the city of Glasgow. Do you have a baldy clue as to who the bears and junglies are? Puzzled by the thought of some cheekywatter from your cargo? Fancy a day out at Fort Weetabix? Or would you rather settle down with some swedgers? After all, you don't want to be a stank dodger. Confused? You need this book! Michael Munro has won the eternal gratitude of Glaswegians for his efforts in popularizing their city’s dialect, universally known as the “patter.” This book is the most extensive collection of this rich and expressive language ever made. Often hilarious, sometimes coarse (but never dull!), the patter is the key to understanding this Scottish city and its inhabitants.

Synopsis Run Johnboy Run by : Ian Todd

It is 1968 and The Mankys are back with a vengeance after 13-year-old Johnboy Taylor is confronted by a ghost from his past. The only problem is, he's just been sentenced to 3 years in an approved school that houses Scotland's wildest teen tearaways. Without his liberty, Johnboy is in no position to determine whether the devastating revelation is a figment of his vivid imagination or whether dark forces are conspiring against him. Elsewhere in the city, Glasgow crime lord, Patt Molloy, aka The Big Man, is plotting to topple those who he believes were responsible for putting him out of the city's thriving 'Doo' business 3 years earlier. Unfortunately for him, The Irish Brigade, a group of corrupt police inspectors, who rule the city with an iron fist, are not about to stand by and allow anyone to dip their fingers into their honey pot, without a fight.
