The Buckinghams, as the name implies, are of English origin, and trace their name to an important English county, a dukedom, and Buckingham palace. The name is a place name, having been spelled Buck or Buch-ing-field or ham, meaning "little village." The Buckinghams immigrated to the United States in 1637, and settled in Pennsylvania. They have had their share of able and successful men: governors of states, lawyers and orators, but they have with few exceptions, during the past four generations, devoted themselves to agriculture on the tracts of land purchase by the first members of the family. Excerpt from Memoirs of the Miami Valley, Vol. 3 of 3 Erhard Allen. Since his arrival at Hamilton, Erhard Allen: has been identified with several important concerns at this place, the duties of which have been discharged with credit to himself. He is a native of Sweden, born January 8, 1883, a son of Erik Toli, who died in Sweden, in which country Mr. Allen's mother still makes her home. Erhard Allen was given a good education, both literary and mechanical, in his native land, for after leaving his school books he was trained as a machinist, tool maker and mechanical draughts man. He was seventeen years of age when he emigrated to the United States and first located in New York city, where he remained for six years during which he was identified with a number of con cerns, gradually gaining practical experience in his trade and fitting himself for a career of further advancement. Upon leaving the metropolis, Mr. Allen went to Wisconsin and for the next few years traveled through that state, and eventually came to Ohio and found employment with the National Cash Register company, with which great concern he spent five years. While at Dayton, Mr. Allen was united in marriage with Helen Agnes Grave of that city, and not long after their union came to Hamilton, where he joined the work ing forces of the Republic Motor Car company. During the period that he remained with that company he received several promotions, finally being made assistant, superintendent, a position which he resigned in 1915 to become associated with the Bonham Recorder company, of which firm he is now superintendent. Mr. Allen is a thorough master of his trade in all its particulars and is also pos sessed of marked executive ability which makes him valuable in the handling of large working forces of men. He is fraternally affiliated with the local lodge of the Order of Elks, and his political support is given to the candidates of the Democratic party. Synopsis Dayton Beer: A History of Brewing in the Miami Valley by : Timothy R. Gaffney

The story of beer in Dayton and the Miami Valley is as old as the region's first settlers, who brought their brewing methods with them from Europe. From humble origins, the Schwind brothers founded a Dayton brewing dynasty. Adam Schantz arrived penniless and amassed a fortune as one of the city's early brewers. Martha Vorce, one of the region's several unheralded woman brewers, was running the Springfield Brewery a decade before Eliza Mother Stewart gained fame there as a temperance leader. Although Prohibition swiftly destroyed this flourishing industry, today's local craft brewers promise to keep good beer and good times flowing for many years to come. Join local author Tim Gaffney as he explores the Valley's brewing heritage.

Synopsis Miami Memoirs by : Lewis M. Ress

Round Two from the amazing life and times of legendary South Florida attorney Lewis Ress takes readers from Brooklyn in the 1940s via a spell in a top-secret Army Department (and a transatlantic solo flight in a replica Spirit of St Louis) to adventures in and out of the courtroom in a sometimes rougher-than-ready Fifties and Sixties Miami. Fans of Strange Cases and Wild Tales will need no introduction to the author's brilliant and fast-paced story telling laced with salty evocations of the human carnival of the era and shot through with compassionate insight. From a failed campaign for Congress (he lost to the local machine, much to his wife's relief) to the brief but memorable career of Herbie the Chiropractor; from advising the heir to Colonel Sanders (and falling out with Buddy Hackett) to night-time jogging with Vitas Gerulaitis, the stories keep on coming. Larry, the charismatic wheeler-dealer from the last book, needs to be rescued from yet another risky deal. A bridge-playing mobster needs help to find his missing daughter? All this and more, along with sage advice against buying a lottery ticket-you might win. Welcome to Round Two!
