The augmented primary bibliography describes all known editions and issues of her works to 1702, and adds a catalogue of editions to 2002, including on-line sources. The secondary bibliography adds close to 1000 items published since 1984 to the original 600 of the first edition along with about 175 more from 1671 to 1984, with attention to materials not in English. New appendices include a list of dedicatees, actors, recent productions (with reviews), and provenances. Buckingham, a farmer of Camp Dennison, Ohio, was born in Symmes township, Hamilton county, Ohio, April 26, 1868, son of Albert G. and Jennie (Doyle) Buckingham, the former of whom was born in the same township as his son, and the latter at Columbus, Ohio. The Buckinghams, as the name implies, are of English origin, and trace their name to an important English county, a dukedom, and Buckingham palace. The name is a place name, having been spelled Buck or Buch-ing-field or ham, meaning "little village." The Buckinghams immigrated to the United States in 1637, and settled in Pennsylvania. They have had their share of able and successful men: governors of states, lawyers and orators, but they have with few exceptions, during the past four generations, devoted themselves to agriculture on the tracts of land purchase by the first members of the family. Enoch Jeffries Buckingham and his brother, Levi, came to Ohio in 1790, and were located for a time at Columbia....

Many British politicians, planters, and doctors attempted to exploit the fertility of Afro-Caribbean women's bodies in order to ensure the economic success of the British Empire during the age of abolition. Abolitionist reformers hoped that a homegrown labor force would end the need for the Atlantic slave trade. By establishing the ubiquity of visions of fertility and subsequent economic growth during this time, The Politics of Reproduction sheds fresh light on the oft-debated question of whether abolitionism was understood by contemporaries as economically beneficial to the plantation colonies. At the same time, Katherine Paugh makes novel assertions about the importance of Britain's Caribbean colonies in the emergence of population as a political problem. The need to manipulate the labor market on Caribbean plantations led to the creation of new governmental strategies for managing sex and childbearing, such as centralized nurseries, discouragement of extended breastfeeding, and financial incentives for childbearing, that have become commonplace in our modern world. While assessing the politics of reproduction in the British Empire and its Caribbean colonies in relationship to major political events such as the Haitian Revolution, the study also focuses in on the island of Barbados. The remarkable story of an enslaved midwife and her family illustrates how plantation management policies designed to promote fertility affected Afro-Caribbean women during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
