Simon Ross Valentine has written the first scholarly evaluation of the teachings, beliefs, and lifestyle of the Ahmaddiya Jama'at, an Islamic reform group founded in nineteenth-century India that currently boasts millions of followers worldwide. To the great aggravation of other Muslims, the Ahmadis assert that prophets existed after Muhammad, a controversial belief that has led to fierce persecution, especially in South Asia, where the government has declared the Ahmadis to be non-Muslims. Valentine explores other major claims made by the Ahmadis, including their assertion that Jesus, instead of dying on the cross (as Christians believe) or ascending to heaven after the crucifixion (as mainstream Muslims teach), in fact escaped from the Romans and settled in Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir and the alleged location of Christ's tomb. After an account of the life of the movement's founder, Ghulam Mirza Ahmad, Valentine discusses the history of the Ahmadis, their proselytization strategies, the role of mosques and madrasas, the position of women within the religion, and the Ahmadis' doctrine of a peaceful jihad.

Our Teaching is an abridged version of the teaching of the Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as laid down in his book Kashti-e-Nuh [Noah’s Ark]. This book is addressed primarily to members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for their moral and spiritual education. Its contents, however, are so spiritually-inspiring that anyone in search of truth and spirituality can derive benefit from it. It is a must read for anyone who wishes to understand the essence of Ahmadiyya beliefs and the standard of righteousness that Ahmadi Muslims must strive to uphold. This teaching is none other than what has been taught in the Holy Quran. Indeed, the Promised Messiah(as) and the Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has said, ‘Whoever neglects even a minor commandment out of the 700 commandments of the Holy Quran closes the door of salvation upon himself.’

Part 8 of a review of the Pakistani Government’s “White Paper”: Qadiyaniyyat – A greave threat to Islam. In 1984 the Islamic government of Pakistan set aside all Islamic injuctions and took upon itself the burden of depriving the Ahmadi Muslims of many basic human rights including religious social freedoms. In an attempt to justify this action, the government of Pakistan published a so-called White Paper under the title ‘Qadiyaniyyat – Islam kay liya Sangin Khatrah‘ (Qadiyaniyyat – A Grave Threat to Islam). Although there was nothing new in this so-called White Paper and the Jama’at literature already included detailed answers to all the issues which were raised, nevertheless Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, Khalifatul-Masih IV, the then Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, answered these allegations in a series of Friday sermons. These sermons (in Urdu) were published by the London Mosque in 1985 and the English translation is now being published. Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, Khalifatul-Masih IV(rta) delivered this sermon on March 15, 1985 at the Fazl Mosque London. It deals with the allegation that the Ahmadis are (God forbid) agents of Israel. It points out that, as commanded by the Holy Qur’an and exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sas), Ahmadis have been actively spreading the message of Islam all over the world, including Israel. It also gives detail about the glorious services rendered by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at during the tragedy of the Palestinian Muslims.

Ever since God Almighty has instituted the system of prophet-hood for the guidance of mankind, the opponents of these holy prophets, peace be on them, have always charged them with falsehood and untruth. They were called sorcerers and madmen and were described as disorderly and rebellious. Every prophet and God’s elect was treated in that manner. The same was the case with the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, peace be on him. when he put forth his claim of being the Reformer of the age and the Promised Mehdi, not only Muslim divines, but the leaders of other religions also, rose up against him and assailed him with false charges and insupportable objections. Muslim divines proclaimed that his teaching was opposed to Islam and the practice of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and showered false charges upon him.

The root cause of the unrest in the world today is due to a lack of justice found at every level of society. Only by recognizing its Creator, can mankind hope to establish true justice and usher in an era of individual, communal, and global peace. This brief treatise is a transcript of the concluding address by Hazrat Mirza Masoor Ahmad (aba), Fifth Successor the Promised Messiah (as) and Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, at the Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK held on August 23, 2015.

Da’watul-Ameer (Invitation to Ahmadiyyat) was written in 1926, specifically addressing the Amir of Afghanistan, Amanullah Khan, who ordered the execution by stoning of three Afghan Ahmadi Muslims a couple of years earlier. Such atrocities underscored the need to refute the false allegations and misconceptions that the orthodox clergy had been circulating about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The purpose of the book, therefore, was to provide the King an authentic explanation of the beliefs, doctrines, and purpose of the Community, as well as the strong foundation upon which it stands. Although the specific events and the original book are now relics of the past, the book lives on as a general primer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s doctrinal beliefs. Da’watul-Ameer elaborates upon the fulfilment of the prophecies made by the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sa) which are documented in the Holy Quran and the Ahaadees, highlighting their true essence and import. It presents an exposition of the claims of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as of Qadian, and details the reasons in their support. It goes on to establish, on the basis of the Holy Quran and the Ahaadees, that the Promised Messiah and Mahdi who was prophesied to appear in the Latter Days had been fulfilled in the person of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as), and emphasises that humankind’s salvation lies in accepting and following him.

After the Promised Messiah(as) published Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, Parts I & II, in 1880, there were urgent requests from Muslims, as well as non-Muslims, for the remainder of the book, but the funds needed for its publication were insufficient. He, therefore, arranged to publish, as Part III, whatever could be financed with the available funds. As a consequence, the original Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, Part III, published in 1882, ends abruptly. When Part IV was later published in 1884, it continued where Part III ended, particularly the main text, Footnote Number Eleven, and Sub-Footnote Number Two.

Following on the work he began in Conscience and Coercion: Ahmadi Muslims and Orthodoxy in Pakistan, Antonio Gualtieri returned to Pakistan to continue his conversations with devotees of the Ahmadi community. He reveals how this traditional society deals with conflicts arising from contact with the non-Ahmadi and shows how the Ahmadi survive in a country that is generally hostile to them. Dedicated to supernatural revelation and the divine governance of society, Pakistan's Ahmadi community has endured mob violence and penal sanctions for refusing to embrace the beliefs of the Sunni majority. They disagree with fundamentalist ideas of exclusiveness and consider themselves a reformed version of Islam. Although they have adopted Enlightenment ideas about the pursuit of scientific knowledge and produced a notable number of technicians, doctors, and scientists, women continue to live under a strict definition of purdah and the community remains conservative. The Ahmadis reveals a society strictly grounded in divinely prescribed patterns - including parental authority, close family ties, a disposition towards gender-specific roles, and separation of the sexes - but at odds with fanatical Muslim fundamentalism, whose wrath has spread beyond the Ahmadi minority to include the West.
