The series is a platform for contributions of all kinds to this rapidly developing field. General problems are studied from the perspective of individual languages, language families, language groups, or language samples. Conclusions are the result of a deepened study of empirical data. Special emphasis is given to little-known languages, whose analysis may shed new light on long-standing problems in general linguistics.

Critical approaches to the study of topics related to Persian literature and Iranian culture have evolved in recent decades. This book is the first authoritative survey of the historical developments of Persian grammar, from the first attested work some 200 years ago to the present day. It examines the development of Persian linguistic thought in five different periods, and analyses the underlying assumptions of the grammars belonging to each period in light of contemporary ideas on the nature of grammar and new frameworks for grammatical analysis.
