Synopsis Databases and Information Systems IX by : G. Arnicans
Databases and information systems are now indispensable for the day-to-day functioning of businesses and society. This book presents 25 selected papers from those delivered at the 12th International Baltic Conference on Databases and Information Systems 2016 (DB&IS 2016), held in Riga, Latvia, in July 2016. Since it began in 1994, this biennial conference has become an international forum for researchers and developers in the field of databases, information systems and related areas, and the papers collected here cover a wide spectrum of topics related to the development of information systems and data processing. These include: the development of ontology applications; tools, technologies and languages for model-driven development; decision support systems and data mining; natural language processing and building linguistic components of information systems; advanced systems and technologies related to information systems, databases and information technologies in teaching and learning. The book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the design, application and use of databases and information systems.

Synopsis Databases and Information Systems X by : A. Lupeikiene
The importance of databases and information systems to the functioning of 21st century life is indisputable. This book presents papers from the 13th International Baltic Conference on Databases and Information Systems, held in Trakai, Lithuania, from 1- 4 July 2018. Since the first of these events in 1994, the Baltic DB&IS has proved itself to be an excellent forum for researchers, practitioners and PhD students to deliver and share their research in the field of advanced information systems, databases and related areas. For the 2018 conference, 69 submissions were received from 15 countries. Each paper was assigned for review to at least three referees from different countries. Following review, 24 regular papers were accepted for presentation at the conference, and from these presented papers the 14 best-revised papers have been selected for publication in this volume, together with a preface and three invited papers written by leading experts. The selected revised and extended papers present original research results in a number of subject areas: information systems, requirements and ontology engineering; advanced database systems; internet of things; big data analysis; cognitive computing; and applications and case studies. These results will contribute to the further development of this fast-growing field, and will be of interest to all those working with advanced information systems, databases and related areas.

Synopsis Current Issues in Databases and Information Systems by : Julius Stuller
The East European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information - stems (ADBIS) is the successor of the annual International Workshops with the same title that during 1993{1996 were organized in Russia by the Moscow ACM SIGMOD Chapter. Initiated in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1997, it con- nued in Poznan, Poland, in 1998 and in Maribor, Slovenia, in 1999. The ADBIS Conference became the premier database and information systems conference in Eastern Europe. It intended to increase interaction and collaboration b- ween researchers from the East and the West, and to provide an internationally recognized tribune for the presentation of research results. The International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Appli- tions (DASFAA) was rst held in Seoul, Korea, in 1989 to promote database research and development activities in Asian and Australasian countries. The Special Interest Group of Database Systems (SIGDBS) of the Information P- cessing Society of Japan (IPSJ) and the Special Interest Group of Data Base (SIGDB) of Korea Information Science Society (KISS) had important roles in the organization of DASFAA. Since that time the DASFAA has been held e- ry two years: Tokyo in 1991, Daejon in 1993, Singapore in 1995, Melbourne in 1997, and Taiwan in 1999. The DASFAA became one of the most prestigious international conferences ever held in Asia or Australasia.

Synopsis Geographical Information Systems and Computer Cartography by : Chris B. Jones
A concise text presenting the fundamental concepts in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), emphasising an understanding of techniques in management, analysis and graphic display of spatial information. Divided into five parts - the first part reviews the development and application of GIS, followed by a summary of the characteristics and representation of geographical information. It concludes with an overview of the functions provided by typical GIS systems. Part Two introduces co-ordinate systems and map projections, describes methods for digitising map data and gives an overview of remote sensing. Part Three deals with data storage and database management, as well as specialised techniques for accessing spatial data. Spatial modelling and analytical techniques for decision making form the subject of Part Four, while the final part is concerned with graphical representation, emphasising issues of graphics technology, cartographic design and map generalisation.

Synopsis Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems IX by : Abdelkader Hameurlain
The LNCS journal Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems focuses on data management, knowledge discovery, and knowledge processing, which are core and hot topics in computer science. Since the 1990s, the Internet has become the main driving force behind application development in all domains. An increase in the demand for resource sharing across different sites connected through networks has led to an evolution of data- and knowledge-management systems from centralized systems to decentralized systems enabling large-scale distributed applications providing high scalability. Current decentralized systems still focus on data and knowledge as their main resource. Feasibility of these systems relies basically on P2P (peer-to-peer) techniques and the support of agent systems with scaling and decentralized control. Synergy between grids, P2P systems, and agent technologies is the key to data- and knowledge-centered systems in large-scale environments. This, the ninth issue of Transactions on Large-Scale Data- and Knowledge-Centered Systems, contains five revised selected regular papers focusing on the following topics: top-k query processing in P2P systems, self-stabilizing consensus average algorithms in distributed sensor networks, recoverable encryption schemes, xml data in a multi-system environment, and pairwise similarity for cluster ensemble problems.

Synopsis Entity-Relationship Approach - ER '93 by : Ramez A. Elmasri
This monograph is devoted to computational morphology, particularly to the construction of a two-dimensional or a three-dimensional closed object boundary through a set of points in arbitrary position. By applying techniques from computational geometry and CAGD, new results are developed in four stages of the construction process: (a) the gamma-neighborhood graph for describing the structure of a set of points; (b) an algorithm for constructing a polygonal or polyhedral boundary (based on (a)); (c) the flintstone scheme as a hierarchy for polygonal and polyhedral approximation and localization; (d) and a Bezier-triangle based scheme for the construction of a smooth piecewise cubic boundary.
