Synopsis Country Wit and Wisdom by : Grace Ann Neuharth
A country life surrounded with beauty was the perfect backdrop for me to learn a lot of life's lessons. It afforded times of stillness and calm without a lot of the distractions of city living. The lessons learned have been many. I have had to seek God in stillness of mind and heart. I praised Him often for His goodness and for all the beauty I see around me. I've talked a lot about predators and being safe and finding that place of safety. True safety can only be found when you are abiding under the shadow of the Almighty. I have also learned more about being dependent upon God. A lot of people in the country seek for self-reliance. It's all about what they can do and have with the work they do. Yet it is God who is in ultimate control of the winds and the rains, the times and seasons of life. These are lessons that can be learned anywhere you can shut the world off for a while and be still. You need a time of silence away from the noises of life that bombard your mind and soul. I pray that you enjoyed both the lighthearted look at the country life and the more serious lessons to be learned. God is speaking to you all the time in many different ways and situations if we only have ears to hear and eyes to see that lesson.

Synopsis Living a Country Year by : Jerry Apps
Jerry App’s farm stories open the barn door to understanding life in the country. “Even with the all the hard work, we had more time (perhaps we took more time) to enjoy what was all around us: nights filled with starlight, days with clear blue skies and puffy clouds. Wonderful smells everywhere—fresh mown hay, wildflowers, and apple blossoms. Interesting sounds—the rumble of distant thunder, an owl calling in the woods, a flock of Canada geese winging over in the fall.” In this paperback edition of a beloved Jerry Apps classic, the rural historian tells stories from his childhood days on a small central Wisconsin dairy farm in the 1930s and 1950s. From a January morning memory of pancakes piled high after chores, to a June day spent learning to ride a pony named Ginger, Jerry moves through the turn of the seasons and teaches gentle lessons about life on the farm. With recipes associated with each month and a new introduction exclusive to this 2nd edition, Living a Country Year celebrates the rhythms of rural life with warmth and humor.

Synopsis Thunder Rolling in the Mountains by : Scott O'Dell
Through the eyes of a brave and independent young woman, Scott O'Dell tells of the tragic defeat of the Nez Perce, a classic tale of cruelty, betrayal, and heroism. This powerful account of the tragic defeat of the Nez Perce Indians in 1877 by the United States Army is narrated by Chief Joseph's strong and brave daughter. When Sound of Running Feet first sees white settlers on Nez Perce land, she vows to fight them. She'll fight all the people trying to steal her people's land and to force them onto a reservation, including the soldiers with their guns. But if to fight means only to die, never win, is the fight worth it? When will the killing stop? Like the author's Newbery Medal-winning classic Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott O'Dell's Thunder Rolling in the Mountains is a gripping tale of survival, strength, and courage.

Synopsis The Wit and Wisdom of Boris Johnson by : Harry Mount
A return to the wit and wisdom of Boris Johnson – Brexiteer, Foreign Secretary, Prime Minister. New and updated edition. 2019 – the year that Boris took on the 'lingering gloomadon-poppers', pledged to steer the UK between the 'Scylla and Charybdis of Corbyn and Farage' and into the calmer waters of political freedom. Of course there was always bound to be 'a bit of plaster coming off the ceilings of Europe's Chanceries'. Harry Mount has updated his edited collection of the Prime Minister's wit and wisdom with three new chapters dealing with Boris's time as Brexiteer-in-chief; Foreign Secretary and 'On the Threshold of Downing Street'. He describes Boris's Brexit campaign, his leadership breakdown in 2016, his ups and downs as Foreign Secretary, his time outside the political establishment, his turbulent private life and how Boris felt it was his manifest destiny to become the Prime Minister. So buckle up for a riotous tour of the million-pound NHS funder, golden wonder, pro-having, pro-eating blond behemoth. This is the Wit and Wisdom of Boris Johnson.
