Synopsis CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY by : Thomas W. Cole, Jr.
This book is the story of how events, timing, relationships and people of goodwill converged at a particular moment in time to achieve a vision for Atlanta University, Clark College and for American higher education that many predicted was not possible in the Atlanta University Center. It describes the formation and development of the consolidated institution from 1988 to 2002 and the historical context that made it possible for two independent institutions with proud histories and legacies of over 100 years each to consolidate. A careful, strategic and deliberate planning process, endorsed by both boards of trustees, is outlined which created the only exclusively private, comprehensive historically black university in the Nation with academic programs of study and research from the freshman year through the doctorate.

Synopsis In the Eye of the Muses by : Clark Atlanta University
Clark Atlanta University Art Galleries in Atlanta, Georgia celebrates the seventieth anniversary of the founding of its permanent collection and the sixtieth anniversary of the unveiling of the Art of the Negro murals with this commemorative volume. Initially conceived with works selected from annual exhibitions, the collection today constitutes a rare and remarkable assemblage of African-American art. In the Eye of the Muses tells the story of the Atlanta University Art Annuals held between 1942 and 1970, from which the collection stemmed, cataloging the 887 artists who participated and crucially enhancing our understanding of art by African Americans. In an accompanying essay, Hale Woodruff's Art of the Negro mural suite is eloquently explicated by art critic Jerry Cullum. In the Eye of the Muses presents a monumental catalogue of a unique collection.

Synopsis Daddy Speaks Love by : Leah Henderson
A moving tribute to the joy and grounding that fathers bring to their children's lives. What does a daddy do? From day one, this daddy speaks love to his little one. And along with that love, his words and actions speak many other things, too: like truth, joy, comfort, and pride. Like many dads, he answers a million questions and tries to make sure that days are full of fun adventures, giggles, and hugs. Dads are good at scaring away imaginary monsters, and honest about how to confront the real ones too. They set an example for the future, speaking out for equality and justice, while sharing lessons from the past. But most of all, daddies encourage their young ones to fight for a better world, with the comfort of knowing their dads are right beside them. Daddy Speaks Love speaks to that everlasting bond between children and their fathers and is a perfect gift for special occasions including Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, baby showers, and more!

Synopsis Academic Pipeline Programs by : Curtis D. Byrd
Academic pipeline programs are critical to effectively support the steady increase of diverse students entering the academy. Academic Pipeline Programs: Diversifying Bachelor's to the Professoriate describes best practices of successful academic government and privately funded pre-collegiate, collegiate, graduate, and postdoctoral/faculty development pipeline programs. The authors explore 21 hallmark academic pipeline programs using their THRIVE index: Type, History, Research, Inclusion, Identity, Voice, and Expectation. The final chapter of the book offers information for using and starting similar programs. The appendix offers an interactive Geographic Information System (GIS) mapped database of programs using the THRIVE index. This book will equip parents, high school counselors, college advisors, faculty, department chairs, and higher education administrators to identify academic pipeline programs that fit their needs. Readers will also learn about how academic pipeline programs are situated within an institutional or organizational change model.
