Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) of Qadian claimed to be the same Promised Messiah and Mahdi that the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sas) prophesied would come to rejuvenate Islam and restore its original lustre. During his early life, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) saw a dream in which he handed a book of his own authorship to the Holy Prophet(sas). As soon as the book touched the Holy Prophet’s blessed hand, it transformed into a beautiful, honey-filled fruit which was then used to revive a dead person lying nearby. The Promised Messiah(as) was inspired with the following interpretation: Allah the Almighty then put it in my mind that the dead person in my dream was Islam and that Allah the Almighty would revive it at my hands through the spiritual power of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. It is this very book – Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya – which is to be instrumental in revitalizing Islam in the latter days in accordance with the grand prophecy of the Holy Prophet(sas). Its subject matter is of universal importance and, as such, it will prove to be a source of lasting value for all readers. This significance of Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya cannot be overstated.

After the Promised Messiah(as) published Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, Parts I & II, in 1880, there were urgent requests from Muslims, as well as non-Muslims, for the remainder of the book, but the funds needed for its publication were insufficient. He, therefore, arranged to publish, as Part III, whatever could be financed with the available funds. As a consequence, the original Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, Part III, published in 1882, ends abruptly. When Part IV was later published in 1884, it continued where Part III ended, particularly the main text, Footnote Number Eleven, and Sub-Footnote Number Two.

In this book the Promised Messiah, on whom be peace, discusses the philosophy of divine revelation, the three categories of people who claim to receive revelation, and the distinction of the truthful from the false. He then establishes his truthfulness by documenting over 200 Signs, including the fulfillment of prophecies made by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, other men of God, earlier scriptures, and his own revelations spanning over twenty-five years. The author cites numerous examples of his enemies who publicly predicted his downfall and demise, only to become the very victims of their own prophecies. God, however, protected him against every assault, while continuously reassuring him of His promise to bless his Community—a promise which continues to bear the seal and testimony of history. The author also appeals to the followers of different faiths to read this book cover to cover to appreciate and accept this evidence as proof that God is One and the Holy Prophet Muhammad is the Messenger of God, and that he is the Promised Messiah raised to unite humanity under the banner of Islam.

Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya Part V was completed after a delay of twenty-three years since Parts I to IV were published. This period served to corroborate the Promised Messiah's(as) mission because it proved that the prophecies documented in the earlier parts came true against all odds, and he had God's full support, for God would not have spared a false claimant for such a long time. When the Promised Messiah(as) began writing the earlier parts of Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, he was a solitary man of the most meagre means living in the remote village of Qadian. By the time he wrote Part V, the help of Allah the Exalted had blessed him with international renown with every resource at his disposal and a flourishing community numbering into hundreds of thousands. In short, Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya Part V is the consummation of arguments in support of the divine origin of the Holy Quran and the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sas). It is also a living testimony of the claims of the Promised Messiah(as) to be the divinely ordained Messiah of the Latter Days.

The third plague pandemic claimed millions of lives in India, and raged with particular intensity in the Punjab province. By 1902, it had encroached within a few miles of the environs of Qadian. Twenty-two years earlier, the Promised Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian, had prophesied the outbreak of such a plague. He boldly proclaimed on the basis of the divine revelation that, as a sight of his truthfulness, God would safeguard Qadian — even though it lay directly in the path of this ravaging disease. The Promised Messiah (as) also pointed out that God had foretold in previous holy scriptures that He would send a severe plague as a warning in the Latter Days, when the Promised Messiah would appear. In Defence Against the Plague, the Promised Messiah (as) reviews various proposals put forward to fight the bubonic plague, and then prescribes the true method for deliverance — that people should reform themselves and accept the Promised Messiah (as) commissioned by God.

From 1896 to 1914 the plague ravaged British India, and more particularly, the province of Punjab. During these perilous times, as towns and cities were devoured, the British government undertook efforts to save the people from this pandemic through inoculation. It was in this backdrop that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian penned Noah’s Ark in 1902. In it the author elaborates the essence of his teachings and states that those who sincerely follow its tenets would be saved miraculously from the onslaughts of this epidemic, even without inoculation. This was a prophecy vouchsafed to him by God. History testifies to the magnificent fulfilment of this prophecy. The book Noah’s Ark shines as a beacon of hope not only for the people of the past, but also now and shall continue to grant salvation to the world in all ages. It is a book that stands as one of the most influential works of the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, and continues to transform lives even today.

At a time when injustice, immorality and sin ran rampant, the religion of Islam dawned to revive the bond between humanity and its Creator, and to establish peace in the world. It was at the hand of the Prophet of Islam that an unparalleled moral and spiritual transformation took place. But the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, prophesied that a time would come when the true teachings of Islam would be forgotten and at this time a divinely appointed reformer would appear to rejuvenate Islam. In fulfilment of this prophecy, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, peace be upon him, appeared in Qadian, India, and claimed to be the divinely appointed reformer awaited by all the world religions. This book comprises an address delivered by the Promised Messiah, in which he speaks about the purpose of his advent and what it means to be an Ahmadi.
