Synopsis Developmental Neuropathology by : Reinhard L. Friede

I was gratified by the most favorable reception and wide usage received by the first edition of this book. A decade seems to be a short period for a book on pathology, and yet it witnessed many important changes of concepts, along with a formidable growth of knowledge. The second edition required extensive reorganization. There are new chapters on mitochondriopathies, on peroxisomal diseases and on spongy myelino pathies. Major revisions and new additions were necessary in many chapters, for instance those on the dysplasias of the cerebral and of the cerebellar hemispheres, which were largely reorganized. The chapters on perinatal pathology were reordered and reorganized to give a more logical sequence of prenatal, perinatal and postnatal lesions. The entire text was worked over for brevity. A wealth of new references was added with the. aim of staying abreast with the literature up to summer 1988. All refer ences were double checked for errors. My gratitude goes to Mrs. Gisela Ropte and Mrs. Cynthia Bunker for their untiring, diligent help. As a result, this second edition is an essentially rewritten text. Advance in the prevention of human suffering is based on a thorough understand ing of the nature of disease. I hope that this text will continue to be of service in this behalf. Perhaps it may also reflect and foster the intellectual curiosity which makes the "reading of brains" so interesting an occupation. Gottingen, 1989 Reinhard L.

Synopsis Non-neoplastic Diseases of the Central Nervous System by : David N. Louis

..'Nearly all texts on surgical neuropathology rightly focus on neoplastic diseases, given their common occurrence. Indeed most discussions of non-neoplastic diseases are found in textbooks geared toward general neuropathology which are not often consulted by surgical pathologists. This text was created to fill that void..' Synopsis Neuropathologic and Neuroradiologic Correlations by : Murat Gokden

While neuropathologists and neuroradiologists are increasingly required to work together to diagnose nervous system diseases, many remain unfamiliar with the other's disciplines. Featuring over 900 images, this practical textbook and atlas combines both specialities, providing an extensive understanding of the disease process. It offers a comprehensive review of the nervous system and diseases of the eye, skeletal muscle, and bone and soft tissue. Topics are covered in chapters arranged by region, allowing for quick reference of conditions such as brain tumors, spinal cord diseases, or congenital malformations. Introductory chapters on pathologic and radiologic techniques are also featured, enabling specialists of both areas to familiarise themselves with the other's subject. Packaged with a password to give the user online access to all the text and images, this is a must-have resource for comprehensive and accurate diagnosis.

Synopsis Integrated Neuroscience by : Elliott M. Marcus

INTEGRATED NEUROSCIENCES This textbook takes as a premise that, in order to make intelligent diagnosis and provide a rational treatment in disorders of the nervous system, it is necessary to develop the capacity to answer the basic questions of clinical neurology: (1) Where is the disease process located? (2) What is the nature of the disease process? The purpose of this textbook is to enable the medical student to acquire the basic information of the neurosciences and neurology and most importantly the ability to apply that information to the solution of clinical problems. The authors also suggest that hospital trips be a part of any Clinical Neurosciences Course so that the student can put into actual practice what he has learned in the classroom. We believe that this textbook will be of value to the student throughout the four years of the medical school curriculum. Medical, psychiatry and neurology residents may also find this text of value as an introduction or review. It is more true in neurology than in any other system of medicine that a firm knowledge of basic science material, that is, the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the nervous system, enables the student and physician to readily arrive at the diagnosis of where the disease process is located and the nature of the most likely pathology. Subsequently that knowledge may be applied to problem solving in clinical situations.

Synopsis Atlas of Human Brain Connections by : Marco Catani

One of the major challenges of modern neuroscience is to define the complex pattern of neural connections that underlie cognition and behaviour. This atlas capitalises on novel diffusion MRI tractography methods to provide a comprehensive overview of connections derived from virtual in vivo tractography dissections of the human brain.

Synopsis Perinatal Neuropathology by : Mirna Lechpammer

"1 Clinical history, clinical correlations with placental pathology and prematurity The initial steps in the process of perinatal nervous system evaluation, namely the planning of the optimal approach and choice of samples to be obtained, are driven by the clinical context. Of key importance are the following data: a. Gestational age at time of demise (if stillborn); or gestational age and postnatal age (if liveborn), for comparison with normative standards of development (see Appendix); b. State of maternal health (age, parity, pre-existing medical conditions or ones appearing during gestation or around the time of delivery, exposure to medications/toxins/infections), and of health of siblings or other family members: - Concerns for inherited (i.e., genetic) conditions, metabolic disorders, congenital infections, etc., may indicate the need for special testing; c. Details of prenatal course, including any imaging, amniocentesis, or monitoring: - Prenatal imaging modalities most commonly consist of transabdominal ultrasonography, generally done at the time of the first prenatal visit (to confirm pregnancy) or more usually in the mid-second-trimester for detection of fetal or placental anomalies"--

Synopsis Atlas of Pediatric Brain Tumors by : Adekunle M. Adesina

This text was created to fill a void in the practice of pediatric neuropathology. It is a practical and well-illustrated book representing a collection of interesting, common and unusual tumors for a diagnostic exercise by the reader. The wide reception of the first edition by the pathology community is testament to its relevance and utility in the pathologic diagnosis of pediatric brain tumors. This edition covers topics ranging from neuroimaging, the use of crush and touch preps during intraoperative consultation, classic histological features of pediatric brain tumors, tumor variants, and a miscellaneous group of challenging tumors. Chapters consist of essential diagnostic information and features highlighting recognized variants and their differential diagnoses. A section on molecular pathology and electron microscopy is also included for each tumor category, along with a list of classic reviews and innovative articles on each of the tumor entities as suggested reading at the end of each chapter. Atlas of Pediatric Brain Tumors, Second Edition represents the state of the art in pediatric neuropathology with easy utility beside the microscope.

Synopsis Embryo and Fetal Pathology by : Enid Gilbert-Barness

Exhaustively illustrated in color with over 1000 photographs, figures, histopathology slides, and sonographs, this uniquely authoritative atlas provides the clinician with a visual guide to diagnosing congenital anomalies, both common and rare, in every organ system in the human fetus. It covers the full range of embryo and fetal pathology, from point of death, autopsy and ultrasound, through specific syndromes, intrauterine problems, organ and system defects to multiple births and conjoined twins. Gross pathologic findings are correlated with sonographic features in order that the reader may confirm visually the diagnosis of congenital abnormalities for all organ systems. Obstetricians, perinatologists, neonatologists, geneticists, anatomic pathologists, and all practitioners of maternal-fetal medicine will find this atlas an invaluable resource.
