Synopsis An Occupational Perspective on Leadership by : Sandra Barker Dunbar

With consistent efforts of current professional leadership to encourage occupational therapists to increase their visibility in local, state, and national affairs related to the profession, it is necessary to provide specific tools for bridging the gap in knowledge concerning leadership. An Occupational Perspective on Leadership: Theoretical and Practical Dimensions is a unique text that will serve to provide an overview of current theoretical perspectives of leadership and an application of these theories to occupational therapy academic, and practice arenas. In addition to leadership theories, An Occupational Perspective on Leadership provides an overview of occupational theoretical models for occupational therapists to formulate an integrated approach that is also founded on core concepts of the profession. Theoretical models such as the Person-Environment-Occupation Model will be used to exemplify how leadership can be viewed through an occupation-oriented lens. Sandra Barker Dunbar and several contributing authors blend the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework, as well as Occupational Therapy Models throughout the text. Case examples of leadership are also included, creating a one-of-a kind text that will incorporate the requirements that Master and Doctoral curricula must meet. As the profession continues to promote leadership, An Occupational Perspective on Leadership: Theoretical and Practical Dimensions is a must-have text for entry-level professionals, as well as doctoral students. Practicing occupational therapists will also benefit from the exposure to leadership theories and their application in the clinical realm.

Synopsis An Occupational Perspective of Health by : Ann Wilcock

For nearly 20 years, An Occupational Perspective of Health has been a valuable text for health practitioners with an interest in the impact of what people do throughout their lives. Now available in an updated and much-anticipated Third Edition, this unique text continues the intention of the original publication: it encourages wide-ranging recognition of occupation as a major contributor to all people’s experience of health or illness. It also promotes understanding of how, throughout the world, “population health” as well as individual well-being is dependent on occupation. At international and national levels, the role of occupation in terms of the physical, mental, and social health of all individuals and populations remains poorly understood and largely overlooked as an inevitable and constant factor. An Occupational Perspective of Health, Third Edition by Drs. Ann Wilcock and Clare Hocking, in line with directives from the World Health Organization (WHO), encourages practitioners of public health, occupational therapy and others to extend current thinking and practice and embrace a holistic view of how occupation and health interact. Addressed in the Third Edition: An explanation of how individual and population health throughout the world is impacted by all that people do A drawing together of WHO ideas that relate to health through occupation, and how people individually and collectively feel about, relate to others, and grow or diminish through what they do A multidisciplinary orientation to promote health and reduce illness by increasing awareness and understanding of the impact of occupations across sleep-wake continuums throughout lifespans and communities The connection of health and occupation is held to be fundamental, although ideas about both have altered throughout time as environments and cultures have evolved. To improve interdisciplinary understanding, An Occupational Perspective of Health, Third Edition explains the concepts of attaining, maintaining, or reclaiming population health through occupation. Instructors in educational settings can visit www.efacultylounge.com for additional materials to be used for teaching in the classroom. Practitioners and students of occupational therapy, health sciences, and public or population health will benefit from and relate to An Occupational Perspective of Health, Third Edition.

Synopsis Understanding Leadership Perspectives by : Matthew R. Fairholm

hand. Indeed, we do not easily move out of one mind-set into another. What we believe to be true given our particular experience often seems to be the only truth. Often we need some outside force to trigger reevaluation and rethinking. That triggering force to intellectual growth may be a new idea, a new situation, a new value, a new boss, or some other significant emotional event – maybe, even, a new book. The Resear ch F oundation This book is founded on two pillars: one, a model of five leadership mind-sets c- mon in the last 100 years first presented in Gilbert W. Fairholm ’s (1998a, 1998b) book, Perspectives on Leadership: From the Science of Management to its Spiritual Heart ; and two, Matthew R. Fairholm’s (2002) dissertation, Conceiving Leadership: Exploring Five Perspectives of Leadership by Investigating the Conceptions and Experiences of Selected Metropolitan Washington Area Municipal Managers , which analyzed and validated the perspectives model (see the Appendix for more details). The data collected confirm there are five distinct perspectives of leadership evident in the 100-year history of leadership study and practice. The resulting model defines the five perspectives in terms of descriptions of leadership in action, leadership tools and behaviors, and the way leaders approach their relationship to followers. The five perspectives are related hierarchically so that they progressively encompass a unique perspective of the leadership phenomenon.
