Synopsis Zeolites and Related Materials: Trends Targets and Challenges(SET) by : Antoine Gedeon

The present book "Zeolites and Related Materials: Trends, Targets and Challenges" reports the communications that have been presented at the 4th International FEZA (Federation of European Zeolite Associations) Conference in Paris, September 3-6, 2008. It gives an excellent overview of the present state of the art of ordered nanoporous solids including zeolites as well as synthetic layered materials (clays), nanosized molecular sieves, ordered mesoporous solids, metal-organic-framework compounds (MOFs), carbons, etc. with emphasis on the synthesis, comprehensive characterization and advanced applications. The significant research activities in this domain are due to the outstanding properties of those nanoporous materials that concentrate the collaborative efforts of researchers from material science, chemistry, physical chemistry and physics. The understanding and development of the unique properties of porous materials relies on a unique blend of multidisciplinary knowledge covering material science, with the implication of organic and colloid chemistry, to prepare micro- and mesoporous materials; surface and adsorption sciences sustained by theory and modelling to understand the peculiar behaviour of molecules in confined systems; special branches of catalysis, physics, chemical engineering and life science to design novel applications. - This book summarizes the developments in the area of nanoporous solids at the dawn of the 21st century, useful for both students/young researchers entering the field of nanoporous materials, as well as for senior scientists - Also summarizes the new family of porous compounds, e.g. MOF's and ordered porous carbon - The present state-of-the-art and prospects of nanoporous solids for advanced applications is discussed

Synopsis Integrated Design and Simulation of Chemical Processes by : Alexandre C. Dimian

This comprehensive work shows how to design and develop innovative, optimal and sustainable chemical processes by applying the principles of process systems engineering, leading to integrated sustainable processes with 'green' attributes. Generic systematic methods are employed, supported by intensive use of computer simulation as a powerful tool for mastering the complexity of physical models. New to the second edition are chapters on product design and batch processes with applications in specialty chemicals, process intensification methods for designing compact equipment with high energetic efficiency, plantwide control for managing the key factors affecting the plant dynamics and operation, health, safety and environment issues, as well as sustainability analysis for achieving high environmental performance. All chapters are completely rewritten or have been revised. This new edition is suitable as teaching material for Chemical Process and Product Design courses for graduate MSc students, being compatible with academic requirements world-wide. The inclusion of the newest design methods will be of great value to professional chemical engineers. - Systematic approach to developing innovative and sustainable chemical processes - Presents generic principles of process simulation for analysis, creation and assessment - Emphasis on sustainable development for the future of process industries

Synopsis Infrared spectra of mineral species by : Nikita V. Chukanov

Over the last 30 years, Dr. Nikita V. Chukanov has collected IR spectra of about 2000 mineral species, including 247 holotype samples. In this book, he presents 3309 spectra of these minerals with detailed description and analytical data for reference samples. In the course of this work, about 150 new mineral species have been discovered. After an introductory chapter, infrared spectra of minerals are given together with the descriptions of standard samples used (occurrence, appearance, associated minerals, empirical formula etc.) and some comments. Sections are organized according to different classes of compounds (silicates, phosphates, arsenates, oxides etc.).

Synopsis Verified Synthesis of Zeolitic Materials by : H. Robson

Zeolite synthesis is an active field of research. As long as this continues, new phases will be discovered and new techniques for preparing existing phases will appear. This edition of Verified Synthesis of Zeolitic Materials contains all the recipes from the first edition plus 24 new recipes. Five new introductory articles have been included plus those from the first edition, some of which have been substantially revised. The XRD patterns have been recorded using different instrument settings from those in the first edition and are intended to conform to typical X-ray diffraction practice. In most cases, only the XRD pattern for the productas synthesised is printed here. The exceptions are those phases which show marked changes in the XRD pattern upon calcination.

Synopsis High Resolution Solid-State NMR of Silicate and Zeolites by : Günter Engelhardt

Covers the dramatic developments in the past decade in the applications of high-resolution NMR to the study of solid materials such as inorganic silicates, aluminosilicates, and in particular, zeolites. Also covers a variety of NMR methods, including conventional FT NMR techniques, used to investigate sorbate-sorbent interactions and the structure of adsorbed molecules. Gives an historical background to the subject and a concise survey of basic principles and methods of high-resolution solid-state NMR. Then covers 29Si NMR of silicate solutions; general aspects of 29Si and 27Al NMR of the silicate and aluminosilicate framework; application of 29Si and 27Al NMR to silicates, aluminosilicates, and zeolites; NMR studies of nuclei other than 29Si and 27Al in zeolites and non-zeolitic silicates; high-resolution studies of adsorbed molecules, and much more.

Synopsis Small Modular Reactors by : NEA.

Recent interest in small modular reactors (SMRs) is being driven by a desire to reduce the total capital costs associated with nuclear power plants and to provide power to small grid systems. According to estimates available today, if all the competitive advantages of SMRs were realised, including serial production, optimised supply chains and smaller financing costs, SMRs could be expected to have lower absolute and specific (per-kWe) construction costs than large reactors. Although the economic parameters of SMRs are not yet fully determined, a potential market exists for this technology, particularly in energy mixes with large shares of renewables. This report assesses the size of the market for SMRs that are currently being developed and that have the potential to broaden the ways of deploying nuclear power in different parts of the world. The study focuses on light water SMRs that are expected to be constructed in the coming decades and that strongly rely on serial, factory-based production of reactor modules. In a high-case scenario, up to 21 GWe of SMRs could be added globally by 2035, representing approximately 3% of total installed nuclear capacity.
