Synopsis TurkeyÕs Syrians: Today and Tomorrow by : Ibrahim Sirkeci
Turkey's Syrians: Today and Tomorrow, edited by Deniz Eroğlu Utku, K. Onur Unutulmaz, Ibrahim Sirkeci is published by Transnational Press London. The book presents a selection of papers drawing on recent research on Syrian refugees in Turkey. Since the first arrival of Syrian refugees, the issue has sparked considerable national and international interest. Political discourses concentrated on state 'generosities' to provide protection to those coming from insecurities and possibilities to reduce 'burden of refugees' to receiving countries via international solidarity. While these concerns focus on effects of hosting refugees, what happens to refugees themselves, how they are affected by government policies and how they are perceived by host country people are questions yet to be answered. This book brings together a multidisciplinary set of contributions scrutinising the case of Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Synopsis Post-Cold War Relations between Turkey and Syria by : Demet Şenbaş
After 2000, there was a closeness in the relations of Syrian and Turkey. However, Turkey and Syria were in dispute about water, Hatay and terrorism. Especially there was an intense tension over terrorism. This tension brought the two countries to the brink of a war in 1998. We can say that the relations between Syria and Turkey normalized after Adana Agreement in 1998. When Bashar Al-Assad came to power in Syria and as did AKP in Turkey, the relations improved even further leading to the abolishment of visas in 2009. However, with the Arab Spring, the relations turned sour and reached to a point that can’t be normalized anymore. This book analyses the relations between Syria and Turkey between 1998 and 2018. Synopsis Economic Survival Strategies of Turkish Migrants in London by : Olgu Karan
Economic Survival Strategies of Turkish Migrants in London by Olgu KARAN is about economic survival in the Turkish and Kurdish communities of North London with some interesting comparisons to the longer established Turkish Cypriot community. It is to be welcomed that the study spans macro and micro levels. Also to be welcomed is that it eschews the idea that identity and culture is fixed and unchanging, providing some fascinating and important examples to the contrary, and that it moves beyond essentially culturalist approaches to entrepreneurship and even more so, mainstream individualist ones. Dr Karan noticed that two ethnic communities in conflictual relationships with each other in home country (Turkey) are marshalling collective resources in a very cooperative way across ethnic boundaries and forming small business ventures and thus contributing to the empowerment and upgrading of their households and communities.

Synopsis Revisiting Gender and Migration by : M. Murat Yüce_ahin
Yucesahin and Yazgan bring together an intriguing collection of essays drawing on a series of research carried out across the world to offer new insights on gender and migration nexus. Recent developments in the field of women's studies have led to a renewed interest in gender studies; nevertheless, these changes are having an effect and a need, which represent different theoretical and analytical tools rather than sex as a dichotomous variable. There is an increasing concern about using theoretical approaches of gender as relational, and spatially and contextually. Therefore, gender is an increasingly important concept in different areas as an analytical tool and research lens to understand how societies function, depending on diversified theoretical orientations. Gender studies not only include women's studies but also cover men's and LGBTTI-Q studies. The literature on gender has highlighted several issues, specifically gender identity, gendered representations, gender roles, gender politics, femininity and masculinity. West and Zimmerman state that analysing gender involves a complex of socially guided perceptual, interactional and micro political activities that cast particular pursuits as expressions of masculine and feminine "natures". Evidently, the role of gender in the contemporary world is at the heart of understanding migrations. From this point forth, recent developments in human mobility have heightened the need for bringing gendered approaches to all aspects of the issues of conflict and movement regarding states, societies and families from broadening perspectives to the ac-curate understanding of the whole process. Little Turkey in Great Britain by Ibrahim Sirkeci, Tuncay Bilecen, Yakup Çoştu, Saniye Dedeoğlu, M. Rauf Kesici, B. Dilara Şeker, Fethiye Tilbe, K. Onur Unutulmaz. This book is the first comprehensive account of migrants from Turkey in Britain. It covers the details of demographics based on official statistics as well as offering insights into integration, identity, employment and political participation issues drawing on eight different field research carried out recently by 8 competent academics and their teams. Not all but many things you want to know about the Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot communities in the UK are covered. LITTLE TURKEY IN GREAT BRITAIN is the outcome of a collaborative writing exercise drawing upon a dozen of research projects carried out by authors independently and collaboratively from 2011 to 2015. This book is expected to be the authoritative resource for anybody interested in the contemporary Turkish and Kurdish speaking immigrant community in the UK. Rich material covers official statistics as well as a wealth of narratives built upon hundreds of face-to-face interviews carried out in London and elsewhere in Britain. From the back cover: “Turkish migration to British Isles has a long history but sizeable diaspora communities and enclaves of Turkish origin have emerged only in the last four to five decades. Earlier groups arrived were Cypriots fleeing the troubled island in the Eastern Mediterranean whilst Turks and Kurds of the mainland were not even considering the UK as a destination. This book is about these contemporary movers from Turkey, their movement trajectories, practices, and integration in Britain. Eight researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds and methodological schools came together to do the ground work for the students of this emerging subfield of human mobility studies. Turkey is now at the forefront of accommodating large scale inward mobility mostly due to the crisis in Syria and Iraq. This also brings some attention to Turkey’s own diasporic populations.” CONTENT Introduction Chapter 1. The Numbers about Turks, Kurds and Turkish Cypriots Chapter 2. Synopsis Entrepreneurial Transitions in Family Business: Organic Model, Governance and Succession by : Simon O'Leary
Family business is one of the earliest forms of economic organisation and is still the most common form of commercial entity in the world, fulfilling roles across the spectrum of business and organisational activities, ranging from craft specialists, to local mobile food outlets, to online traders, to corner shops, to market sector suppliers, to internationally branded multinationals. Starting up, developing and maintaining such initiatives requires a dedicated entrepreneurial spirit and a range of management skills, as well as periodic episodes of good timing and targeting. Since the advent of mechanisation and industrialisation, larger organisations and publicly-listed companies have often been viewed as the measure of economic sustainability, in part because collecting information on such groups is relatively more straightforward than doing the same for the many hundreds of thousands of smaller family firms, sole traders and entrepreneurs. This book aims to reinforce the importance of family businesses and to highlight the challenges they face as they evolve.

Synopsis Global Crime and Justice by : David Jenks
Global Crime and Justice offers a transnational examination of deviance and social controls around the world. Unlike many CJ texts detailing the systems of select nations, or books that merely catalog types of international crime, Global Crime and Justice provides a critical and integrated investigation of the nature of crime and how a society reacts to it. The book first details types of international crime, including genocide, war crimes, international drug and weapons smuggling, terrorism, slavery, and human trafficking. The second half covers international law, international crime control, the use of martial law, and the challenges of balancing public order and human and civil rights.
