Synopsis Fictions of Enlightenment by : Qiancheng Li

Fictions of Enlightenment is the first book to examine the fascinating and intricate relationship between Buddhism and the development of Chinese vernacular fiction. Qiancheng Li brings Buddhist models to bear on the vision, structure, and narrative form of three classics of late imperial literature—Journey to the West, Tower of Myriad Mirrors, and Dream of the Red Chamber—arguing that by fashioning their plots after the narratives of certain Mahāyāna sutras, the novelists transformed Buddhist concepts into narrative structures. Within the traditional Chinese novel Li even defines a new genre: the fiction of enlightenment.

Synopsis The Lie That Is Lincoln by : Stephen Miklosik M.D.

This book describes the unnecessary actions of Abraham Lincoln in causing and pursuing the greatest American crime of the nineteenth century, the American Civil war and secondly its cover-up by his cabinet and all the sycophantic historians following. My extensive reading on the Civil War and visiting the Gettysburg battlefield left me aghast as to the number of soldiers, the cream of. American manhood, were sacrificed and wasted upon the numerous battlefields 600,000 plus, more dead than all American wars combined. Yet historians pass this off as justifiable homicide, and a small price to pay to achieve freedom for four million slaves. To me this is sheer blasphemy! According to 'the philosophical principles espoused by Jean Jacques Rousseau, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes etc., the Thirteen Colonies claimed their natural right to declare their independence fro. the Mother Country, Britain. and establish their own right to self-determination. The Declaration of Independence, beginning "When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People t() dissolve the Political Bands which have connected the. with another" etc., says it all. (Interestingly Texas used almost identical language in their declaration to be free from Mexico.) But men the South had the audacity to declare these same fundamental rights an enraged Lincoln denied it to them thereby plunging the nation in the worst case of fratricide the world has ever known through his scorched-earth policy. Using the clever battle-cry. "The Nation must be preserved" he convinced the Nation as to the urgency of crushing the South.

Synopsis What Lies Between Us by : Nayomi Munaweera

In the idyllic hill country of Sri Lanka, a young girl grows up with her loving family; but even in the midst of this paradise, terror lurks in the shadows. When tragedy strikes, she and her mother must seek safety by immigrating to America. There the girl reinvents herself as an American teenager to survive, with the help of her cousin; but even as she assimilates and thrives, the secrets and scars of her past follow her into adulthood. In this new country of freedom, everything she has built begins to crumble around her, and her hold on reality becomes more and more tenuous. When the past and the present collide, she sees only one terrible choice. From Nayomi Munaweera, the award-winning author of Island of a Thousand Mirrors, comes the confession of a woman, driven by the demons of her past to commit a single and possibly unforgivable crime. Praise for Island of a Thousand Mirrors: "The paradisiacal landscapes of Sri Lanka are as astonishing as the barbarity of its revolution, and Munaweera evokes the power of both in a lyrical debut novel worthy of shelving alongside her countryman Michael Ondaatje or her fellow writer of the multigenerational immigrant experience Jhumpa Lahiri." - Publishers Weekly "The beating heart of Island of a Thousand Mirrors is not so much its human characters but Sri Lanka itself and the vivid, occasionally incandescent, language used to describe this teardrop in the Indian Ocean." - The New York Times Book Review
