When a title is enacted into positive law, the underlying statutes are repealed and the title then becomes legal evidence of the law. Currently, 26 of the 51 titles in the Code have been so enacted. These are identified in the table of titles near the beginning of each volume. The Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives continues to prepare legislation pursuant to 2 USC 285b to enact the remainder of the Code, on a title-by-title basis, into positive law. The United States Code is the Code of Laws of the United States of America (also referred to as Code of Laws of the United States, United States Code, U.S. Code, or U.S.C.) and is a compilation and codification by subject matter of all the general and permanent Federal laws of the United States. It is a vital legal research tool. Containing 51 titles grouped by broad subject matter, the main edition of the United States Code is published every six years by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives, and cumulative supplements are published annually to provide the most up-to-date information. The last main edition was published for 2006, and the current 2012 edition started shipping in 2013.

The Code of Federal Regulations is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government.

Comprises all laws of a general and permenent nature under arrangement of the official Code of laws of the United States, with annotations from Federal and State courts.
