Synopsis Unicorns Don't Wear Shoes & Ridgecrest Rescue by : Helen M. Hogan
When Wes Wilson discovers a body in at the barn where he boards his quarter horse, he faces unexpected accusation from the chief deputy. Wes postpones his dreams—of competing with his stallion in cutting horse shows and of dating Cathy McLeod. He helps rescue Mrs. Magers’ lost pony from the slaughterhouse. Young Susan screams in horror as foreman Sutherland kills the stable cat’s kittens, so Wilson wades in. He hopes as principal to expand his high school’s programs against opposition from his vindictive superintendent. With his teacher accused of kidnapping, Wes figures out the hiding place. Meanwhile, he learns the murder victim is not Mexican but Syrian and in the U.S. with two others on the Homeland Security watch list. The terrorists move in for an explosive ending. Hogan's mystery forces Rod Mannering, a decent guy, to outwit a murderer and a scam artist. Finding his friend's body at a horse show pits Rod against a killer. A developer's lawsuit threatens financial ruin. With physical and monetary problems, Rod won't romance the attractive Texas rider, Taylor Blair, but together, despite vicious threats, they unearth the real estate scam. The Highway Patrol finds Rod's daughter's car abandoned like vehicles of women killed recently, and he forgets all else. With Taylor, he heads into a storm to find Belinda. A trip wire catapults him over the cliff. Battered, hanging onto a narrow ledge, he insists Taylor climb the ridge crest to rescue Belinda. Fears and hopes attack his mind throughout his painful wait. Readers identify with a man struggling through a physical and emotional comeback and a woman regaining control of her life in a backdrop of Arabian horse shows.

Synopsis Roll Models by : Richard Holicky
"I thought life was pretty much over." Paul Herman "I was afraid people wouldn''t see me for who I still was." Cathy Green "I didn''t need this to be a better person." Susan Douglas "I wasn''t sure I wanted to live ''this way.''" Kevin Wolitzky The above four people and 49 more just like them went on to find high levels of success and lead satisfying lives. Together they tell 53 stories of moving forward to meet all the challenges, fears, obstacles, and problems common to the life-altering circumstances after spinal cord injury, and doing it without benefit of wealth, large settlements or solid health coverage. Ranging in age from 21 to 67, disabled from three to 48 years they share 931 years of disability experience. Roll Models is a valuable new resource for recently injured people and their families, and for nurses, therapists, psychologists and all other professionals who treat, work with and care for people with spinal cord injury. Straight from the horse''s mouth, survivors explore their experiences with disability and answer many questions those in rehab are asking: Early Thoughts What were your thoughts immediately following injury? What were your initial thoughts and reactions regarding SCI and the future? The First Years What were your biggest fears during that first year or so? How did you get past those early fears? Changes, Obstacles and Solutions How much different are you now, compared to how you were before injury? What''s been the biggest obstacle? How did you address these obstacles? Finding What Works What have been the most difficult things for you to deal with since injury? What''s the worst thing about having an SCI and using a chair? What''s been your biggest loss due to injury? Is SCI the worst thing that ever happened to you? Tell me something about your problem solving skills. How do you deal with stress? What do you do to relieve stress? Salvations, Turning Points and More Was there any one thing that was your "salvation" or key to your success? Was there a turning point for you when you began to feel things were going to get better? What personal factors, habits and beliefs have helped you the most? SCI and Meaning Do you find any meaning, purpose or lessons in your disability? Did any positive opportunities come your way because of your injury? What''s your greatest accomplishment? What are you most proud of? "A wonderful roadmap with many alternate routes to living and thriving with SCI." Minna Hong, SCI survivor and Peer Support Coordinator/Vocational Liaison, Shepherd Center "Avoids the trap of providing a ''one size fits all mentality'' and provides solutions as varied as the individuals used as examples. Accentuates the positives while not sugar coating the difficulties. Essential reading." Jeff Cressy SCI survivor and Director of Consumer and Community Affairs, SCI Project, Rancho Los Amigos "A great resource for people as they venture out into the world, or search for meaning and a deeper, richer life. Filled with examples of real people and their real experiences." Terry Chase, ND, RN; SCI survivor; Patient & Family Education Program Coordinator, Craig Hospital "A wonderful tool for the newly spinal cord injured individual, as well as the therapists and counselors working with them. This certainly hits the mark in capturing important survival strategies." Jack Dahlberg, SCI survivor, Past President of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association "Artfully crafted and organized, Roll Models sensitively portrays life following spinal cord injury. Informative, creative, sensitive, as well as infused with humor and a kind heart. Synopsis Tales from the Time Loop by : David Icke
Tales from the Time Loop is the most comprehensive book yet written about the global conspiracy that emerges more clearly every day. David Icke has been warning for well over a decade of the plan for a world fascist state, a global version of Nazi Germany, in which the people will be prisoners of a Big Brother dictatorship founded on the suppression of the most fundamental freedoms and total control and surveillance. Today there is a gathering awareness that he was right. People are realising that Big Brother is no longer "coming." He's here.

Synopsis The Geology of the Atlantic Ocean by : Kenneth O. Emery
The explosion of interest, effort, and information about the ocean since about 1950 has produced many thousand scientific articles and many hun dred books. In fact, the outpouring has been so large that authors have been unable to read much of what has been published, so they have tended to concentrate their own work within smaller and smaller subfields of oceanog raphy. Summaries of information published in books have taken two main paths. One is the grouping of separately authored chapters into symposia type books, with their inevitable overlaps and gaps between chapters. The other is production of lightly researched books containing drawings and tables from previous pUblications, with due credit given but showing assem bly-line writing with little penetration of the unknown. Only a few books have combined new and previous data and thoughts into new maps and syntheses that relate the contributions of observed biological, chemical, geological, and physical processes to solve broad problems associated with the shape, composition, and history of the oceans. Such a broad synthesis is the objective of this book, in which we tried to bring together many of the pieces of research that were deemed to be of manageable size by their originators. The composite may form a sort of plateau above which later studies can rise, possibly benefited by our assem bly of data in the form of new maps and figures.

Synopsis Magic Kingdom for Sale--Sold! by : Terry Brooks
Here in his first non-Shannara novel, Terry Brooks has written a gripping story of mystery, magic, and adventure—sure to delight fantasy readers everywhere. Landover was a genuine magic kingdom, with fairy folk and wizardry, just as the advertisement has promised. But after he purchased it, Ben Holiday learned that there were a few details the ad had failed to mention. The kingdom was in ruin. The Barons refused to recognize a king, and the peasants were without hope. A dragon was laying waste the countryside, while an evil witch plotted to destroy everything. Ben's only followers were the incompetent Court Magician; Abernathy, the talking dog who served as Court Scribe; and the lovely Willow—but she had a habit of putting down roots in the moonlight and turning into a tree. The Paladin, legendary champion of the Kings of Landover, seemed to be only a myth and an empty suit of armor. To put the final touch on the whole affair, Ben soon learned that the Iron Mark, terrible lord of the demons, had challenged all prospective Kings of Landover to duel to the death—a duel which no human could hope to win. The task of proving his right to be King seemed hopeless. But Ben Holiday was stubborn. . . .

Synopsis A Girl, a Raccoon, and the Midnight Moon by : Karen Romano Young
In this “enchanting” tale of a girl trying to solve a mystery and save a local library, “the magic of reading is given a refreshingly real twist” (Kirkus Reviews). A New York City library branch has been designated for possible closure. But the bookish, socially awkward Pearl, the daughter of the librarian, can’t imagine a world without the library. When the head of their Edna St. Vincent Millay statue goes missing, closure is closer than ever. But Pearl is determined to save the library. And with a ragtag neighborhood library crew—including a constantly tap-dancing girl, an older boy she has a crush on, and a pack of literate raccoons—she just might be able to do it . . . Featuring an eclectic cast of richly drawn characters, quirky sidebars and footnotes, and illustrations by award winner Jessixa Bagley, this is a warm-hearted, visually intriguing tale of reading and believing, and a world of possibility. “Solidly entertaining.” —School Library Journal “Bursting with charm, lovable characters, and excitement that builds and builds.” —Gail Carson Levine, Newbery Award–winning author of Ella Enchanted "A love letter to libraries . . . Big-hearted and dazzling, this classic-in-the-making is not to be missed.” —Katherine Applegate, Newbery Award–winning author of The One and Only Ivan
