Synopsis Unholy Babylon by : Adel Darwish

This thoroughly researched & dramatic account is an Arab's viewpoint of how the West was maneuvered into fueling Saddam's & Iraq's rise to power in the Middle East. It casts new light on key events that have not been fully explored by the media, & reveals intelligence documents that show how the U.S. was caught unprepared for war despite clear warning signals from the CIA & the international intelligence community. This book is an insider's history of the roots of Saddam Hussein's war, & a maddening indictment of our complicity in it. Maps & photos.

Synopsis Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers by : Philip Schaff

"The Council of Nicaea in 325 AD marked the beginning of a new era in Christianity. For the first time, doctrines were organized into a single creed. The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers did most of their writing during and after this important event in Church history. Unlike the previous era of Christian writing, the Nicene and Post-Nicene era is dominated by a few very important and prolific writers. In Volume VIII of the 14-volume collected writings of the Nicenes and Post-Nicenes (first published between 1886 and 1889), readers will find Saint Augustines extensive treatment of the Psalms. Augustine took this book from the Old Testament and wove into it the revelation of Jesus as the savior of humanity. Through the skill of Augustine, it seems as though the Psalms had been written by an oracle who knew that eventually the messiah would come and wrote to pave the way. This volume is a valuable reference book for any Christian wishing to have the psalms illuminated and explained."

Synopsis The Expositions On The Psalms Volume 2 by : St. Augustine of Hippo

In any commentary on a portion of the Old Testament by a writer unacquainted with Hebrew, exact criticism, and freedom from mistake, must not be expected. But the Psalms have been so in the mouth and in the heart of God's people in all languages, that it has been necessary often to find an explanation suitable to imperfect translations. And no doubt it is intended that we should use such explanations for the purpose of edification, when we are unable to be more accurate, though in proving doctrine it is necessary always to remember and allow for any want of acquaintance with the original, or uncertainty with respect to its actual meaning. However, the main scope and bearing of the text is rarely affected by such points as vary in different translations, and the analogy of the faith is sufficient to prevent a Catholic mind from adopting any error in consequence of a text seeming to bear a heterodox meaning. Perhaps the errors of translation in the existing versions may have led the Fathers to adopt rules of interpretation ranging too far from the simple and literal; but having such translations, they could hardly use them otherwise. Meanwhile St. Augustin will be found to excel in the intense apprehension of those great truths which pervade the whole of Sacred Writ, and in the vivid and powerful exposition of what bears upon them. It is hardly possible to read his practical and forcible applications of Holy Scripture, without feeling those truths by the faith of which we ought to live brought home to the heart in a wonderful manner. His was a mind that strove earnestly to solve the great problems of human life, and after exhausting the resources, and discovering the emptiness, of erroneous systems, found truth and rest at last in Catholic Christianity, in the religion of the Bible as expounded by St. Ambrose. This is volume two out of two, covering the Psalms LXXIV through CL.

Synopsis The Ending of the Canon by : Külli Tõniste

Revelation studies have been typically characterised by two very different types of study emanating from academia and the church. Academia has been engaged in historical critical and source critical studies which typically dissect the text. Whilst the methods used in the church treat Revelation as scripture and keep the text intact, these approaches often lack the tools for sound interpretation. Tõniste observes the need for a more holistic and thoughtful methodology to study Revelation. Tõniste develops an approach that respects Revelation as a part of Christian scripture composed by and for the church, whilst simultaneously making use of respected modern academic methods that support unity (literary, canonical, and narrative criticism, intertextuality, and canonical location) to arrive at theologically sensible and satisfying interpretations. The basic key to unlocking the mysteries of Revelation lies in its abundant use of intertextuality, an area that remains still under-researched. This integrated methodology is explored through a reading of Revelation 21-22.
