Synopsis Understanding the Iglesia Ni Cristo by : Anne C. Harper
• Does the Iglesia ni Cristo really teach that their building will go up in the rapture? • Do they use coercive methods to make sure their members give at least a tithe of their income to the church? • Have confrontational methods of evangelism been effective in reaching them? • Is there a better way? The answers to these and other questions may surprise you. In this groundbreaking and meticulously researched new book, evangelical scholar Dr. Anne Harper, who, with her husband, George, is a Manila based missionary with Action International Ministries. describes the history, teachings, growth and development of the Iglesia ni Cristo since its founding in 1914 and explains why this group has endured for the last 100 years and why it will not likely fade away. Unlike other evangelical publications, Dr. Harper treats the Iglesia ni Cristo with respect and kindness, while being careful not to agree with or endorse their teachings. Thoroughly documented, yet highly readable, this book will go a long way to removing the false stereotypes that many born again Christians have of this group and challenges to rethink our attitudes towards them and respond in a biblical manner. Synopsis Why I Am Not an Iglesia Ni Cristo by : MR Edward K. Watson
The Iglesia Ni Cristo or INC started in the Philippines in 1914 and has a Unitarian theology. What makes it unique is it boasts the Bible contains dozens of prophecies of their founder (Felix Manalo), their church, and the Philippines. It loudly proclaims it's the only "True Church" and all who refuse to convert will suffer eternal torment in the "lake of fire." It also imposes a level of control over its members that is abnormal in today's free societies, such as dictating to whom to vote, imposing public shunning and humiliation of disciplined or former members, and "discouraging" its members from conducting independent Bible study. This book examines and refutes every INC claim of prophetic fulfillment. It scrutinizes the INC assertion of exclusive authority to baptize and establishes the utter futility of its baptism since Felix Manalo cannot give what he does not have. This book also examines the Bible's teachings on the person of Jesus Christ and provides specific passages demonstrating the Bible teaches he is also "God" in addition to being a man. Lastly, it also provides proof that the Bible teaches the Holy Spirit is a sentient entity who is also "God."

Synopsis The Iglesia Ni Cristo Under a Microscope by : Edward Watson
The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) church started in the Philippines in 1914 and has a Unitarian theology. It loudly proclaims it is the only "True Church" and all who refuse to convert will suffer eternal torment in the "lake of fire." It backs up its authoritative claim by alleging the Bible contains dozens of prophecies of their founder (Felix Manalo), their church, and the Philippines. Its ministers are notorious for their hostility and aggressiveness towards ministers of other faiths. The Iglesia Ni Cristo Under a Microscope is the first work to systematically examine the beliefs and practices of this church. It shows every so-called prophetic proof of the INC is a misrepresentation of the Holy Bible. It also provides specific passages showing the Holy Bible teaches Jesus is God and the Holy Spirit is also God.Anyone regardless of faith or lack thereof who want to know the truth about the INC faith will find value in this work.

Synopsis Italian American Pentecostalism and the Struggle for Religious Identity by : Paul J. Palma
While many established forms of Christianity have seen significant decline in recent decades, Pentecostals are currently one of the fastest growing religious groups across the world. This book examines the roots, inception, and expansion of Pentecostalism among Italian Americans to demonstrate how Pentecostalism moves so freely through widely varying cultures. The book begins with a survey of the origins and early shaping forces of Italian American Pentecostalism. It charts its birth among immigrants in Chicago as well as the initial expansion fuelled by the convergence of folk-Catholic, Reformed evangelical, and Holiness sources. The book goes on to explain how internal and external pressures demanded structure, leading to the founding of the Christian Church of North America in 1927. Paralleling this development was the emergence of the Italian District of the Assemblies of God, the Assemblee di Dio in Italia (Assemblies of God in Italy), the Canadian Assemblies of God, and formidable denominations in Brazil and Argentina. In the closing chapters, based on analysis of key theological loci and in lieu of contemporary developments, the future prospects of the movement are laid out and assessed. This book provides a purview into the religious lives of an underexamined, but culturally significant group in America. As such, it will be of great interest to scholars of Pentecostalism, Religious Studies and Religious History, as well as Migrations Studies and Cultural Studies in America

Synopsis The Spirit of Catholicism by : Dr. Karl Adam
This is the 1929 English translation of the original German text first published in 1924 and authored by one of the world’s most distinguished Christian philosophers, Dr. Karl Adam. This book is a brilliant and evocative study of the fundamental concepts of the Catholic Faith, from its tenets, its historical development and the role of the Church in world society. For many on the outside, Catholicism, according to Dr. Adam, represents a daunting and somewhat foreign confused mass of conflicting forces that has somehow survived the tests of time. Catholicism is simultaneously new yet quite old; holy yet corrupt; hierarchical yet personal; dogmatic yet utilitarian, and so on. How can someone outside the Church get a good grasp on the essence of Catholicism when it is so vast and seemingly complex? Those attempting to grasp the very heart and spirit of Catholicism should read Karl Adam’s book, which is a most elegant and concise exploration of the faith and an attempt to address these ambiguities. What are the fundamental attributes of the Catholic Church? What is the source from which it has drawn vigor and life through its two thousand years of life on earth? What are the secret sources of its incredible vitality in the world today? The author answers these and many other questions about the nature and structure of the Church. He examines the essential nature of the Catholic Church from the basic premise that it was expressly founded by Christ, traces its historical development and analyzes its actual functioning through the ages.
