Synopsis New Trends in Diagnosis and Management of Stroke by : Klaus Poeck

It might appear bold to publish the proceedings of yet another sym posium on the diagnosis and management of stroke. However, I hope in selecting topics to reflect 'new trends' and in inviting speakers to discuss these trends and the related concepts and results, that we have been suc cessful in attaining a high level of scholarship as well as in appealing to a wide readership. The central issues here derive from a new typology of strokes that should replace the obsolete distinction based on purely temporal param eters so aptly criticized by Caplan. A classification of strokes on the basis of pathogenesis requires a synopsis of information gained from history, neurological and cardiovascular findings, ultrasound studies (ex tracranial as well as transcranial), correctly timed CT scan investigation and, if necessary, from selective angiography. Only the recognition of the role of pathogenetic events for a patient permits the application of a ra tional therapy regimen.

Synopsis Trends in Cerebrovascular Surgery by : Tetsuya Tsukahara

This volume provides an overview of new concepts in neurovascular interventions based on clinical and scientific knowledge of cerebrovascular disorders. It especially focuses on subarachnoid hemorrhage and cerebrovascular malformations, e.g. aneurysms, arterio-venous malformations, and cavernomas. A separate part addresses cerebral revascularization for both complex aneurysms and ischemia. All contributions were written by recognized experts and cover original papers presented at the 7th European Japanese Stroke Surgery Conference, held in Verona, Italy in June 2014. The authors present new trends and strategies for managing emerging problems, as well as in-depth discussions on controversial issues in the field.

Synopsis Recent Progress in the Management of Cerebrovascular Diseases by : Yoko Kato

This book has included 19 recent topics about the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases from basics to surgical (include microneurosurgical, endovascular, endoscopic and Stereotactic radiosurgical techniques) aspects in the management of cerebrovascular diseases. With illustrative cases, the treatment strategies, techniques and complication avoidance have been covered extensively in the chapters to guide the readers on when and what to expect the worst in surgeries. The neurosurgical aspect in the present scenario of COVID is also included. This book will assist the junior neurosurgeons and junior neurological physicians in endeavoring to learn the core concepts and common problems of cerebrovascular surgery. This is a worthwhile addition in this ever growing field of cerebrovascular surgery.

Synopsis New Trends of Surgery for Cerebral Stroke and its Perioperative Management by : Yasuhiro Yonekawa

In July 2004 specialists in neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurology and neurointensive care discussed recent trends at the 2nd Swiss Japanese Joint Conference on Cerebral Stroke Surgery, held in Zurich, Switzerland. New concepts were worked out during the conference and are published in this volume. The book starts with the topic intracranial aneurysms, discussing microsurgical and endovascular treatment modalities, as well as new surgical approaches. Further chapters deal with the management of unruptured aneurysms and with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Practical guidelines for vasospasm treatment are given. Together with contributions about arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, cerebral revascularization techniques and surgery related to the intracranial venous system a comprehensive overview about stroke surgery is given with an interdisciplinary approach. The book will be of interest for all specialists involved in therapy of cerebrovascular disease.

Synopsis Risk Factors for Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke by : Sudha Seshadri

Risk Factors for Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke address the relationship of a wide variety of vascular risk factors in the spectrum of cerebrovascular diseases. An international group of professionals the forefront of research and education, provide their expertise about environmental and genetic determinants for cerebrovascular disease and stroke. The authors aim to provide information on developments of genetic, environmental and lifestyle-related risk factors of various subtypes of stroke, and MRI-markers of cerebrovascular disease. One in two men, and one in three women after the age of 40, will develop a stroke in their lifetime. The burden of cerebrovascular disease extends far beyond that of acute clinical events such as stroke, with "covert" vascular injury on brain MRI being highly prevalent in older community-dwelling persons. Therefore, improving our understanding of the risk factors for stroke and cerebrovascular disease is of paramount importance for improving prevention strategies. Secular trends in stroke epidemiology, risk factors, and intermediate markers (including carotid ultrasound, brain MRI and circulating biomarkers) are presented. Cutting edge information on genetic, environmental and lifestyle-related risk factors of various subtypes of stroke and MRI-markers of cerebrovascular diseases are displayed. This important book is an essential reference to physicians interested in more effective primary prevention of stroke.
