Synopsis Black Transhuman Liberation Theology by : Philip Butler
Mediating Black religious studies, spirituality studies, and liberation theology, Philip Butler explores what might happen if Black people in the United States merged technology and spirituality in their fight towards materializing liberating realities. The discussions shaping what it means for humans to exist with technology and as part of technology are already underway: transhumanism suggests that any use of technology to augment intellectual, psychological, or physical capability makes one transhuman. In an attempt to encourage Black people in the United States to become technological progenitors as a spiritual act, Butler asks whether anyone has ever been 'just' human? Butler then explores the implications of this question and its link to viewing the body as technology. Re-imagining incarnation as a relationship between vitality, biochemistry, and genetics, the book also takes a critical scientific approach to understanding the biological embodiment of Black spiritual practices. It shows how current and emerging technologies might align with the generative biological states of Black spiritualities in order to concretely disrupt and dismantle oppressive societal structures.

Synopsis The Transhumanism Handbook by : Newton Lee
Modern humanity with some 5,000 years of recorded history has been experiencing growing pains, with no end in sight. It is high time for humanity to grow up and to transcend itself by embracing transhumanism. Transhumanism offers the most inclusive ideology for all ethnicities and races, the religious and the atheists, conservatives and liberals, the young and the old regardless of socioeconomic status, gender identity, or any other individual qualities. This book expounds on contemporary views and practical advice from more than 70 transhumanists. Astronaut Neil Armstrong said on the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, “One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Transhumanism is the next logical step in the evolution of humankind, and it is the existential solution to the long-term survival of the human race.

Synopsis Transhumanism: The Proper Guide to a Posthuman Condition or a Dangerous Idea? by : Wolfgang Hofkirchner
This book examines the contributions of the transhumanism approach to technology, in particular the contributed chapters are wary of the implications of this popular idea. The volume is organized into four parts concerning philosophical, military, technological and sociological aspects of transhumanism, but the reader is free to choose various reading patterns. Topics discussed include gene editing, the singularity, ethical machines, metaphors in AI, mind uploading, and the philosophy of art, and some perspectives taken or discussed examine transhumanism within the context of the philosophy of technology, transhumanism as a derailed anthropology, and critical sociological aspects that consider transhumanism in the context of topical concerns such as whiteness, maleness, and masculinity. The book will be of value to researchers engaged with artificial intelligence, and the ethical, societal, and philosophical impacts of science and technology.

Synopsis Transhumanist Dreams and Dystopian Nightmares by : Maxwell J. Mehlman
What will happen when technology allows us to direct our own evolution? Transhumanists advocate for the development and distribution of technologies that will enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities, even eliminate aging. What if the dystopian futures and transhumanist utopias found in the pages of science journals, Margaret Atwood novels, films like Gattaca, and television shows like Dark Angel are realized? What kind of world would humans have created? Maxwell J. Mehlman considers the promises and perils of using genetic engineering in an effort to direct the future course of human evolution. He addresses scientific and ethical issues without choosing sides in the dispute between transhumanists and their challengers. However, Transhumanist Dreams and Dystopian Nightmares reveals that radical forms of genetic engineering could become a reality much sooner than many people think, and that we need to encourage risk-management efforts. Whether scientists are dubious or optimistic about the prospects for directed evolution, they tend to agree on two things. First, however long it takes to perfect the necessary technology, it is inevitable that humans will attempt to control their evolutionary future, and second, in the process of learning how to direct evolution, we are bound to make mistakes. Our responsibility is to learn how to balance innovation with caution.

Synopsis Transhumanism by : David Livingstone
Transhumanism is a recent movement that extols man’s right to shape his own evolution, by maximizing the use of scientific technologies, to enhance human physical and intellectual potential. While the name is new, the idea has long been a popular theme of science fiction, featured in such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, the Terminator series, and more recently, The Matrix, Limitless, Her and Transcendence. However, as its adherents hint at in their own publications, transhumanism is an occult project, rooted in Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry, and derived from the Kabbalah, which asserts that humanity is evolving intellectually, towards a point in time when man will become God. Modeled on the medieval legend of the Golem and Frankenstein, they believe man will be able to create life itself, in the form of living machines, or artificial intelligence. Spearheaded by the Cybernetics Group, the project resulted in both the development of the modern computer and MK-Ultra, the CIA’s “mind-control” program. MK-Ultra promoted the “mind-expanding” potential of psychedelic drugs, to shape the counterculture of the 1960s, based on the notion that the shamans of ancient times used psychoactive substances, equated with the “apple” of the Tree of Knowledge. And, as revealed in the movie Lucy, through the use of “smart drugs,” and what transhumanists call “mind uploading,” man will be able to merge with the Internet, which is envisioned as the end-point of Kabbalistic evolution, the formation of a collective consciousness, or Global Brain. That awaited moment is what Ray Kurzweil, a director of engineering at Google, refers to as The Singularly. By accumulating the total of human knowledge, and providing access to every aspect of human activity, the Internet will supposedly achieve omniscience, becoming the “God” of occultism, or the Masonic All-Seeing Eye of the reverse side of the American dollar bill.

Synopsis Technopolitcs by : Constantino Pereira Martins (Ed.)
Technopolitics is a follow-up book that intends to depart and expand the concept of Cyberpolitics to all the dimensions and effects of technology in our lives but placing politics at the center of debate and thought. Most investigations in the fields of Humanities have highlighted the impact of digitization and social virtualization and mapped the transition from the Industrial Revolution, and mass disciplinary society, to the digital revolution, telework and social atomism. The fusion of disruptive technologies is changing the fundamentals of our world almost roaming on its own towards a near future with unprecedented and unpredictable outcomes. This new technological reason implies a rupture and a paradigm shift in the radical transition from an instrumental reason (auxiliary) to an autonomous reason (essential). This means the impossibility of further sustaining the illusion of technological neutrality. Science, culture and technology appear to be merging and in combat simultaneously. And all fields of knowledge are alert to a main idea: how deep is technology shaping our societies and politics? Regardless of the outcome, an age of instability is also an age of challenges. In our era of uncertainty, and while our civilization moves forward toward a hyper-technological future, we should not forget to discuss and reflect on the values and ethics we would like to survive the ruin of time and to pass on to the next generations.

Synopsis Poetic Parloir Post- and Transhumanism by : - le Berthélaine
Post- and transhumanism is an urgent issue that demands reflection, as the coming biotech revolution inevi-tably will change human life. The essay trilogy offers a vivid and comprehensible insight into the topic through the different angles of literature, art, film, philosophy, religion and science, enlightening newcomers as well as those already fa-miliar with the discourse. The intention is an impartial presentation that captures the complexity of post- and transhumanism - spurring the reader to his or her own reflections on humanity version 2.0. The matter is not a sci-fi scenario, and critics argue that we already live in a Post- and Transhumanistic age. A conviction Poetic Parloir endorses, and for certain the view that it will have a major impact, chang-ing our understanding of humankind and how to live a human life. It calls for moral attention, as the new biotechniques evolve at a far higher pace than ethics can keep up with. Part III inquires into the expected furcation of mankind into different versions or subspecies, according to the extent of modification and enhancement. The focus of interest is »ethos«, that is, the attitude and ten-dency of the improved, superior humans towards those less enhanced and the original, unmodified ones. Will the biotech engendered superhumans feel themselves so lofty and apart that they will seize power and take control of the society, demand special rights and establish themselves as a nouveau aristocracy - as kings. In a future stratification of distinct lower and higher castes, reviving ancient and feudal forms of society. This might be the scenario of the pending biotech era. A utopia or a dystopia? Dear reader, I hereby give you Poetic Parloir part III on post- and transhumanism. Yours to read, roam and revel in.

Synopsis Transhumanism as a Challenge for Ethics and Religion by : Robert Petkovsek
The crucial question of our time is: How to preserve humanity, humanitas, in a world of radical and not so long ago practically unimaginable technological possibilities? The book addresses this issue through its treatment of transhumanism, a diverse movement the representatives of which promise and advocate for the enhancement of human being through modern science, technology, and pharmacology. Their views differ in the degree of extremity, and they contain many ambiguities, as well as pitfalls and dangers that require an answer from both ethical and religious points of view. The book deepens the understanding of transhumanism in an interdisciplinary way and thus helps to form the right attitude towards it that will truly benefit human flourishing. It offers a rich variety of views on transhumanism, ranging from its illumination in the light of contemporary research into happiness, through liberal eugenics and biopolitics, all the way to its considerations in terms of religions and manifestations in concrete works of art.
