This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of four workshops held in conjunction with the Third European Conference, ServiceWave 2010, held in Ghent, Belgium, in December 2010. The book includes 23 reviewed papers from four workshops that were selected from eight high-quality workshop session proposals. They represent diverse aspects of the theory and practice of service computing, ranging from service engineering to service infrastructures. The workshops are: First Workshop on Optimising Cloud Services (OCS 2010), International Workshop on Emergency Management through Service-Oriented Architectures (EMSOA 2010), First International Workshop on Service Modelling and Representation Techniques (SMART 2010), and From Event-Driven Business Process Management to Ubiquitous Complex Event Processing (EDBPM 2010).

This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third European Conference, ServiceWave 2010, held in Ghent, Belgium, in December 2010. The 15 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 49 submissions. They cover a broad range of subjects related to service-oriented architectures and the underlying cloud infrastructure and are organized in topical sections on cloud computing, service adaptation and identification, infrastructures, applications and mashups, and engineering of service-oriented applications. This book provides a timely and comprehensive overview of the introduction of LTE technology for PPDR communications. It describes the operational scenarios and emerging multimedia and data-centric applications in demand and discusses the main techno-economic drivers that are believed to be pivotal for an efficient and cost-effective delivery of mobile broadband PPDR communications. The capabilities and features of the LTE standard for improved support of mission-critical communications (e.g., proximity services, group communications) are covered in detail. Also, different network implementation options to deliver mobile broadband PPDR communications services over dedicated or commercial LTE-based networks are discussed, including the applicability of the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) model and other hybrid models. Radio spectrum matters are also discussed in depth, outlining spectrum needs and providing an outlook into allocated and candidate spectrum bands for PPDR communications and suitable dynamic spectrum sharing solutions in PPDR communications. The 25 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited presentations were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. They are organized in topical sections on cloud computing, security, privacy and trust, service engineering fundamentals, business services, and FI-PPP. In addition to the scientific track, 14 extended abstracts of demonstrations covering a wide spectrum of technology and application domains were accepted.

Providers and consumers have to deal with variants of software services, which are alternative instances of a services design, implementation, deployment, or operation. This work develops the service feature modeling language to represent software service variants and a suite of methods to select variants for development or delivery. An evaluation describes the systems implemented to make use of service feature modeling and its application to two real-world use cases.

Electronic documents frequently include contributions from different human and non-human sources. The Web, for instance, offers ever-changing content and services which can perform activities during document creation. This thesis introduces a solution for collaborative document creation which maps contributions of human and non-human participants to software services. The joint flexible composition and coordination of these services leads to a novel understanding of dynamic Web-based documents.

Many SaaS providers nowadays want to leverage the cloud’s capabilities also for their existing applications, for example, to enable sound scalability and cost-effectiveness. This thesis provides the approach CloudMIG that supports SaaS providers to migrate those applications to IaaS and PaaS-based cloud environments. CloudMIG consists of a step-by-step process and focuses on two core components. (1) Restrictions imposed by specific cloud environments (so-called cloud environment constraints (CECs)), such as a limited file system access or forbidden method calls, can be validated by an automatic conformance checking approach. (2) A cloud deployment option (CDO) determines which cloud environment, cloud resource types, deployment architecture, and runtime reconfiguration rules for exploiting a cloud’s elasticity should be used. The implied performance and costs can differ in orders of magnitude. CDOs can be automatically optimized with the help of our simulation-based genetic algorithm CDOXplorer. Extensive lab experiments and an experiment in an industrial context show CloudMIG’s applicability and the excellent performance of its two core components.

Max Hoffmann describes the realization of a framework that enables autonomous decision-making in industrial manufacturing processes by means of multi-agent systems and the OPC UA meta-modeling standard. The integration of communication patterns and SOA with grown manufacturing systems enables an upgrade of legacy environments in terms of Industry 4.0 related technologies. The added value of the derived solutions are validated through an industrial use case and verified by the development of a demonstrator that includes elements of self-optimization through Machine Learning and communication with high-level planning systems such as ERP. About the Author: Dr.-Ing. Max Hoffmann is a scientific researcher at the Institute of Information Management in Mechanical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, and leads the group “Industrial Big Data”. His research emphasizes on production optimization by means of data integration through interoperability and communication standards for industrial manufacturing and integrated analysis by using Machine Learning and stream-based information processing.
