Synopsis Tinker Tales Unmentionable by : Allan Lowson
“Tinker Tales Unmentionable’ is a collection of previously unpublished short stories celebrating magic and motorcycles. Tinker is the son of an absentee Irish gypsy dad and a Scottish mother, raised poor and turned out on the streets after her death in his early teens. Blood will out, and he becomes a trader in iron ponies, only to become enmeshed in magic. Somehow he survives a sorcerer’s apprenticeship to Magic John, a notorious gutter-mage (detailed in previous collections: ‘Tinker Tales’ and ‘Tinker Tales Untold’) yet trouble and temptation lurk around every corner. Here Tinker falls for a witch, hazards a dysfunctional future, encounters crop circles, and generally has to ride for his life. Ride along with him a few miles, and remember the magic.

Synopsis Typhoon and Other Tales by : Joseph Conrad
TYPHOON * FALK * AMY FOSTER *THE SECRET SHARER The four tales in this volume share autobiographical origins in Conrad's experience at sea and his exile from Poland, the country of his birth. 'Typhoon' is the story of a steamship and her crew beset by tempest, and of the stolid captain whose dogged courage is tested to the limit. In 'Falk' a taciturn young woman is bizarrely courted by a tug-boat master who is haunted by a terrible secret. 'Amy Foster' tells of an emigrant Pole struggling to overcome isolation and prejudice in England. The final tale, 'The Secret Sharer', is Conrad's most famous short story, a masterpiece of suspense and ambiguity. Giving sanctuary to a fugitive sailor, a young sea-captain risks his ship and his command in order to save him. This revised edition uses the English first edition texts and has a new chronology and bibliography. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Synopsis Sea Stories by : Tom McCarthy
Sea stories are, plainly and simply, wonderful springboards for vicarious adventure. There is nothing like a sea story to entertain, thrill, move, shock, or inspire a reader, and this collection will do just that. What is it about the sea that lends itself to so many indelibly classic stories? The sea is a wonderful stage on which to unroll a dramatic narrative or introduce a heroic character. It’s no wonder so many masterpieces are set on the seas of the world. From sublime moments gunkholing with Erskine Childers in “An Introduction to Informality,” to sheer terror with the ill-fated men among sharks in Raymond B. Lech's “The Loss of the Indianapolis,” to astounding respect for the endurance of Ernest Shackleton and his storm-tossed men in “Escape from the Ice,” there is simply nothing that can compare to what awaits in this collection of twenty-eight thrilling stories. Many, having withstood the test of time and the vagaries of popular culture, are classics. Classic or not, the stories in this collection are good reading—breathtaking, entertaining, and offering myriad unexpected pleasures.
