Synopsis The Romantic Ethic and the Spirit of Modern Consumerism by : Colin Campbell

The Romantic Ethic and the Spirit of Modern Consumerism was first published by Basil Blackwell of Oxford in 1987. A paperback edition appeared two years later, while in the following five years it was reprinted four times. However although the intervening years have seen the appearance of Italian, Portuguese, Slovenian and Chinese editions, no copies have been available in English since 1998. This Alcuin Academic edition has therefore been published in order to fill this gap, and more specifically to meet the needs of those academics and students who have contacted me over the past six or seven years in search of an English-language version of the book. Naturally I have considered writing a revised edition (which indeed some critics, as well as a few friends, have suggested is long overdue). -- Amazon.com.

Synopsis The Penguin Book of Romantic Poetry by : Jonathan Wordsworth

The Romanticism that emerged after the American and French revolutions of 1776 and 1789 represented a new flowering of the imagination and the spirit, and a celebration of the soul of humanity with its capacity for love. This extraordinary collection sets the acknowledged genius of poems such as Blake's 'Tyger', Coleridge's 'Khubla Khan' and Shelley's 'Ozymandias' alongside verse from less familiar figures and women poets such as Charlotte Smith and Mary Robinson. We also see familiar poets in an unaccustomed light, as Blake, Wordsworth and Shelley demonstrate their comic skills, while Coleridge, Keats and Clare explore the Gothic and surreal.

Synopsis The Romantic Spirit by : Bernard Charles Barnick

In a time of political and social turmoil, literature and Nature can help to provide a calming influence. Poems and essays about Nature, which are characteristic of the Romantic period of literature, can serve as an antidote against violence, both in real life and in the entertainment world of movies and television. It is now important for books expressing the beauty of the world and the innate value of all life to be written, books that convey the spirit of Romanticism of authors past.

Synopsis The Romantic Movement by : Alan Menhennet

Menhennet traces the main strands of thought and interest that preoccupy the Romantic writers: the revolutionary attitude that is differentiated from that of writers like Byron by the lack of emphasis on individualism; the dualism of the bourgeois world and the "inner self;" the interest in language as an agency for the regeneration of the German spirit; and the concentration on folk themes and the idea of Wanderung.

Synopsis The Romantic Manifesto by : Ayn Rand

In this beautifully written and brilliantly reasoned book, Ayn Rand throws a new light on the nature of art and its purpose in human life. Once again Miss Rand eloquently demonstrates her refusal to let popular catchwords and conventional ideas stand between her and the truth as she has discovered it. The Romantic Manifesto takes its place beside The Fountainhead as one of the most important achievements of our time.
