Synopsis Systematic Theology, Second Edition by : Wayne A. Grudem

This new edition of Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem is one of the most important resources for helping you understand Scripture and grow as a Christian. The most widely used resource of the last 25 years in its area, Systematic Theology has been thoroughly revised and expanded for the first time while retaining the features that have made it the standard in its field: clear explanations, an emphasis on each doctrine's scriptural basis, and practical applications to daily life. With nearly 250 pages of new content and revisions, this new edition now includes the following distinctive features: Updated analysis of recent controversies within evangelical theology, including the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son in the Trinity, the role of women in the church, miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit, and contemporary worship music. New discussion and critiques of recent theological controversies situated outside of traditional evangelical theology, such as open theism, the "new perspective on Paul," Molinism (or "middle knowledge"), "Free Grace" theology, and the preterist view of Christ's second coming. Completely revised chapter on the clarity of Scripture. Completely revised chapter on creation and evolution, including a longer critique of theistic evolution and an extensive discussion on the age of the earth. New discussion of how biblical inerrancy applies to some specific "problem verses" in the Gospels. Additional material explaining evangelical Protestant differences with Roman Catholicism, Protestant liberalism, and Mormonism. Completely updated bibliographies. All Scripture quotations updated from RSV to ESV. Updated section on contemporary worship music. Numerous other updates and corrections. Part of the brilliance of Systematic Theology has been its simplicity and ease of use. Each chapter follows the same structure: discussion of the doctrine being considered, an explanation of that doctrine's biblical support and possible objections, followed by personal application and key terms to know for personal growth. Chapters also include a Scripture memory passage, references to other literature on the topic, and suggested hymns and worship songs. If you think theology is hard to understand or boring, then this new edition of Systematic Theology will change your mind.

Synopsis THE RESURRECTION BODY "According to the Scriptures" by : Wilbert W White

The pivotal relation of the resurrection to the Christian system has been generally acknowledged. It is the cardinal fact of Christianity. In this book, the author delves into the "how" and "why" of key points of the Resurrection, a precursor to the Christian's resurrection. He distinguishes between a "resurrection," and a "resuscitation," showing that Lazarus was resuscitated, while Jesus was resurrected. He counters the error of reincarnation, and discusses why this is incompatible with the Scriptures. Dealing with skeptics, he thoroughly refutes the major theories that deny the resurrection: the Theory of Fancy, the Theory of Fraud, and the Theory of Phantom. One of the most significant points he brings out is that that the angel rolled away the stone from the door of the tomb to let the outsiders in, not to let Jesus out. In that tomb were evidences of the resurrection which it was desirable the disciples should see. The winding sheets spoke as eloquently and convincingly of entrance into new life, as the empty shell of the chrysalis speaks of the flight of the butterfly. Lazarus brought the wrappings that were [wound] about him with him when he came from the grave. Furthermore, he converses the accounts of the Resurrection in each of the gospels, and concludes with a homily on the power of the Resurrection and its first-fruits for believers. Homage is paid by the editor to the author's son, a WWI flying ace who was killed in action defending a fellow-pilot. Certainly, his son's heroic death must have been very much on his mind, and what comfort meditating on these truths must have brought the author.

Synopsis Cold-Case Christianity by : J. Warner Wallace

Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Synopsis The Corinthian Body by : Dale B. Martin

Annotation In this intriguing discussion of Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, Dale Martin contends that Paul's various disagreements with the Corinthians were the result of a fundamental conflict over the ideological construction of the human body (and hence the church as the body of Christ). This led to differing opinions on a variety of theological viewpoints--including the role of rhetoric and philosophy in a hierarchical society, the eating of meat sacrificed to idols, prostitution, sexual desire and marriage, and the resurrection of the body.
