Synopsis The Picture of Dorian Gray (Diversion Classics) by : Oscar Wilde
Featuring an appendix of discussion questions, the Diversion Classics edition is ideal for use in book groups and classrooms. Oscar Wilde's only novel tells the story of Dorian Gray, a vain man so obsessed with his hedonistic lifestyle he is willing to sell his soul. Ensuring that a portrait of himself will age while he remains youthful, Dorian pursues a life of debauchery, but his actions soon take him past the point of redemption. Controversial and frequently banned, THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY is a fascinating exploration of conscience and morality.

Synopsis The Picture of Dorian Gray (Esprios Classics) by : Oscar Wilde
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a Gothic and philosophical novel by Oscar Wilde, first published complete in the July 1890 issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. Fearing the story was indecent, prior to publication the magazine's editor deleted roughly five hundred words without Wilde's knowledge. Despite that censorship, The Picture of Dorian Gray offended the moral sensibilities of British book reviewers, some of whom said that Oscar Wilde merited prosecution for violating the laws guarding public morality. In response, Wilde aggressively defended his novel and art in correspondence with the British press, although he personally made excisions of some of the most controversial material when revising and lengthening the story for book publication the following year.

Synopsis The Picture of Dorian Gray (World Classics, Unabridged) by : Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde brings his enormous gifts for astute social observation and sparking prose to The Picture of Dorian Gray, his dreamlike story of a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. This dandy, who remains forever unchanged- petulant, hedonistic, vain and amoral- while a painting of him ages and grows increasingly hideous with the years, has been horrifying, enchanting, obsessing, even corrupting readers for more than a hundred years.

Synopsis The Picture of Dorian Gray (Literature Classics) by : Oscar Wilde
Annotated & Unabridged & Uncensored edition. In this celebrated work, his only novel, Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind.

Synopsis The Picture of Dorian Gray by : Oscar Wilde
It is probably one of the best-known and most influential works of world literature. The Picture of Dorian Gray is still required reading for schoolchildren around the globe, has been the subject of countless film and theater adaptations and, incidentally, is a frequently quoted metaphor: the young and extremely handsome Dorian, who is increasingly rotting and degenerating inside. His increasingly unloved point of reflection is a painting that ages in his place as Dorian makes a pact with evil to preserve eternal youth. Gröls Classics - English Edition
