Synopsis The Pathology of Mind a Study of Its Distempers, Deformities, and Disorders (Classic Reprint) by : Henry Maudsley

Excerpt from The Pathology of Mind a Study of Its Distempers, Deformities, and Disorders The first edition of The Physiology and Pathology of fifimi appeared in 1867, and a second edition in the following year. In 1876 the first part of it was published as a separate volume entitled The Physiology of Mind, and in 187 9 the second part followed in separate form as The Pathology of Mind. This book, although retaining the old name, is virtually new; for while old matter has been left out and much fresh matter added, the whole has been recast, the form of its presentation changed, and the text entirely rewritten. As it would not have been proper to give it a new title, since it deals with the same subject as the former treatise, and necessarily incorporates the revised substance of what was contained in it, I have retained the old title, only adding a supplementary notification of the present scope of the contents. As it is now, the work may be said to present the last ripe fruits of observations and reflections the first green fruits of which appeared so long ago. Synopsis The Pathology of Man by : Steven J. Bartlett

"The Pathology of Man is the first comprehensive study of the psychology and epistemology of human evil, long urged by leading psychiatrists and psychologists, including Freud, Jung, Menninger, Fromm, and Peck. The book breaks new ground by offering a clear, empirically based, and theoretically sound understanding of human evil as a widespead, real, non-metaphorical pathology. With deliberate and thorough scholarship, the author proposes a new framework relative theory of disease and justifies the thesis that human evil should be classified as a pathology which is not a deviation from an accepted norm, but rather is a normal state."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Synopsis The Human Brainstem by : Hannsjörg Schröder

The human brainstem has long been a neglected area in clinical medicine. This is shown by the fact that there is no introductory book on the neuroanatomy and pathology of this region. This book is intended to introduce the reader to the neuroanatomy of the human brainstem and combines an atlas with detailed information on the individual structures. The atlas features a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging series, histological specimens (Darrow Red and Campbell staining) and a plastinate-based topographical part, which allows direct comparison of histological and topographical findings with neuroimaging. In addition, the reader is guided along the brainstem neuromer model through the human brainstem and learns about the functional properties of the individual structures of the brainstem. Where appropriate, peripheral targets of brainstem structures are illustrated and explained. Furthermore, each chapter covers the most important neurological disorders affecting the brainstem. This book aims to demonstrate that sound anatomical knowledge is required to understand brainstem pathology. It will particularly help those new to the field to better understand the complex anatomy of the human brainstem and will be useful to basic and clinical neuroscientists alike.

Synopsis Pathologist of the Mind by : S. D. Lamb

Weaving together private correspondence and uniquely detailed case histories, the author examines Adolf Meyer's efforts to institute a clinical science of psychiatry in the United States—one that harmonized the expectations of scientific medicine with his concept of the person as a biological organism and mental illness as an adaptive failure.
