Synopsis Unison Parenting by : Cecil Taylor
Unison Parenting combines proven parenting techniques in a Christian context with a unique foundation of unison parenting strategies designed to identify and avoid pitfalls that disrupt parents from staying on the same page. The term “unison parenting” comes from music; singing in unison is when all voices sing the same note at the same time in order to emphasize the text. Similarly, to emphasize the message that parents want to send, they need to parent in unison. From Cecil’s personal parenting experience and the experience of families with which he has been involved, parents will learn how to proactively, intentionally adopt and execute strategies that balance a loving nature with firm boundaries for their child. This balance creates a warm, sure environment where the child and parent can eventually collaborate to bring the child to full, responsible adulthood. Designed for parents of school-age children who may reside in both traditional and non-traditional family structures, the first half of the book lays out parenting fundamentals for all ages. The second half focuses on the teen years and how to manage the child’s growing need for independence by allowing for incremental decision-making that gradually builds trust. Unison Parenting has been hailed as a comprehensive parenting guide that takes the child through ages and stages into mature adulthood.

Synopsis Freeing Your Child from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by : Tamar E. Chansky, Ph.D.
If you're a parent of one of the more than one million children in this country with obsessive-compulsive disorder, you know how confusing, even frightening, the symptoms of OCD can be. You're terrified of losing your child and angry about the havoc this disorder has wreaked in your family. More than anything, you want to be able to unlock the secrets of OCD, understand the cause of your child's bizarre symptoms, and help your child break free of these disruptive, relentless thoughts and actions. In her landmark book, Freeing Your Child from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Dr. Tamar E. Chansky creates a clear road map to understanding and overcoming OCD based on her successful practice treating hundreds of children and teenagers with this disorder. In Part I, Dr. Chansky "cracks the code" of the peculiar rules and customs of OCD -- the handwashing, tapping, counting, and so forth. She explains how OCD is diagnosed, how to find the right therapist partner, and how to tailor treatment options to your child's needs. You'll learn how powerful behavioral modification can be and when medication can help. In Part II, you'll learn how not to be pulled in by your child's debilitating rituals at home or at school, how to talk to your child about the "brain tricks" OCD causes, and how to create an effective OCD battle plan that will empower your child to "boss back" the OCD monster. You'll also learn how to cope in moments of crisis. Part III offers specific advice for how to help your child handle the most common manifestations of OCD such as fears of contamination, checking, getting things "just right," intrusive thoughts, and more. Part IV is an indispensable guide to additional resources, including books, videos, organizations, and websites. Filled with Dr. Chansky's compassionate advice and inspiring words from the many children with OCD whom she has helped, this book will be your lifeline. Battling back from OCD is hard work, but with the comprehensive, proven guidance in this book, you can help your child reclaim a life free from its grip.

Synopsis Civil Rights in New York City by : Clarence Taylor
Since the 1960s, most U.S. History has been written as if the civil rights movement were primarily or entirely a Southern history. This book joins a growing body of scholarship that demonstrates the importance of the Northern history of the movement. The contributors make clear that civil rights in New York City were contested in many ways, beginning long before the 1960s, and across many groups with a surprisingly wide range of political perspectives. Civil Rights in New York City provides a sample of the rich historical record of the fight for racial justice in the city that was home to the nation’s largest population of African-Americans in mid-twentiethcentury America. The ten contributions brought together here address varying aspects of New York’s civil rights struggle, including the role of labor, community organizing campaigns, the pivotal actions of prominent national leaders, the movement for integrated housing, the fight for racial equality in public higher education, and the part played by a revolutionary group that challenged structural, societal inequality. Long before the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Reverend Adam Clayton Powell Jr. helped launch the Harlem Bus Boycott of 1941. The New York City’s Teachers’ Union had been fighting for racial equality since 1935. Ella Baker worked with the NAACP and the city’s grassroots movement to force the city to integrate its public school system. In 1962, a direct action campaign by Brooklyn CORE, a racially integrated membership organization, forced the city to provide better sanitation services to Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn’s largest black community. Integrating Rochdale Village in South Jamaica, the largest middle-class housing cooperative in New York, brought together an unusual coalition of leftists, liberal Democrats, moderate Republicans, pragmatic government officials, and business executives. In reexamining these and other key events, Civil Rights in New York City reaffirms their importance to the larger national fight for equality for Americans across racial lines.

Synopsis BATTLE PLANS by : Edward D. Andrews
In a world increasingly skeptical of faith, Christians often find themselves facing tough questions about God, the Bible, and the relevance of their beliefs. How do you respond when someone challenges the existence of God? What do you say when confronted with the problem of suffering? How can you defend the truth of Christianity when many claim it’s just another outdated religion? Battle Plans: A Game Plan for Answering Objections to the Christian Faith provides the tools you need to confidently engage in conversations with skeptics, atheists, and those questioning their faith. This book tackles the most common and difficult objections to Christianity, offering clear, thoughtful, and biblically grounded responses. Each chapter presents a hypothetical conversation, demonstrating how to reason, explain, overturn false reasoning, and defend the truth with conviction and compassion. Whether you’re discussing the problem of evil, the reliability of Scripture, or the role of science in the debate over creation, Battle Plans equips you with practical strategies for answering objections in a way that respects the questioner and remains true to Scripture. Rooted in the conservative evangelical tradition, this book emphasizes the authority of God’s Word and the importance of a reasoned defense of the faith. Whether you are a pastor, a church leader, or a believer seeking to engage in meaningful dialogue, Battle Plans will strengthen your understanding of Christian apologetics and prepare you for the spiritual battles you will face.
