Synopsis The New International Lesson Annual 2016-2017 by : David Kalas
The New International Lesson Annual is designed for teachers who seek a solid biblical basis for each session and a step-by-step teaching plan that will help them lead their classes. It can be used with any student curriculum based on the Uniform Lesson Series. In many classes, both the students and teacher rely on the Annual as their companion to the Bible. Includes the CEB and NRSV translations. Over the four quarters of the 2016-2017 Sunday school year we will explore the themes of God’s sovereignty, creation, love, and call. During the fall quarter we examine Isaiah, Hebrews, and Revelation to see how these books reveal the Sovereignty of God. Luke’s Gospel, selected psalms, and Galatians will help us understand Creation: A Divine Cycle, our study for the winter. In the spring we will survey both the Old and New Testaments to discover that God Loves Us. We conclude during the summer with God’s Urgent Call, a study of the way God spoke to certain judges, prophets, and people of the New Testament. Inside discover: Weekly Scripture reading and reflection questions to enhance the teacher's personal spiritual growth. Weekly activities that the learners can do beyond the classroom to live out what they have learned. In-depth background article for each quarter. Quarterly pronunciation guide. Additional quarterly reference material, such as maps, charts, or timelines. Quarterly ideas for putting one's faith into action. Annual teacher enrichment article. Annual index to background Scriptures.

Synopsis Teacher Education and Professional Development in TESOL by : JoAnn Crandall
At the forefront of research on English language teacher education and professional development, this volume presents new empirical research situated in different contexts around the world, including Canada, Denmark, Israel, Japan, Korea, Qatar, Sudan, and the U.S. It is framed by the volume editors’ insightful overview and analyses of previous and ongoing work in a variety of related domains and an epilogue by David Nunan. The chapter studies are organized around three themes: teacher identity in ESL/EFL teacher education and professional development programs, second language teacher education programs for diverse contexts, and professional development for diverse contexts. All chapters focus on the applied nature of the research and include a section on implications. To provide balance and a range of views, the volume includes both chapters reporting on empirical research funded by TIRF grant recipients and several from invited authors who are senior scholars in the field. This is the third volume in the Global Research on Teaching and Learning English Series, co-published by Routledge and TIRF.

Synopsis Global Social Policy by : Kepa Artaraz
Social policy is a subject that helps develop our understanding of the meaning of human wellbeing, and of the systems by which wellbeing must be promoted. As a discipline, social policy has traditionally been blunted by a focus on the nation state; however, in this age of globalisation the most pressing challenges – such as climate change, ageing populations and flagging economies – serve as proof that, even at national level, social policy is now more heavily influenced by global factors than ever before. In this important and authoritative text, Kepa Artaraz and Michael Hill provide a richly detailed contribution to our understanding of the global forces shaping social problems today. Part One discusses the different approaches to social policy and explores the process of globalisation, looking particularly at its winners and losers and the implications it has for human well-being; Part Two examines more closely the key actors in global social policy – such as the market, the state and international organisations; and Part Three provides an opportunity to explore some specific key issues of global importance, such as employment and migration, demographic change and global poverty. Adding considerable momentum to the movement away from a reductionist, nationally focused study of the discipline, Global Social Policy opens up new and stimulating discussions and provides a fresh framework for the study of human well-being. Using policy examples from areas around the world to provide a truly international scope, it is an essential read for students studying at all levels.

Synopsis Lesson Study by : Peter Dudley
This book introduces readers to the development of Lesson Study (LS) in the UK, making historical connections to the growth of Lesson Study in Japan, East Asia, the US and Europe. It explains how to conduct LS in schools and educational institutions, providing examples of compelling, externally evaluated impact outcomes for both primary learners and teacher learners, and vivid exemplars of LS in action across age ranges and curricular contexts. Each chapter presents international research outcomes that clearly demonstrate how and why LS has a place within teacher learning approaches that have the greatest impact and the greatest capacity building potential for creating outstanding teaching. This is supported by primary research evidence, and linked with contemporary and recent high quality research worldwide into pupil learning, teacher learning, school improvement and system improvement. The book illustrates the diverse application of LS for innovating or transferring highly effective practices in a variety of contexts to boost learning for children with a range of challenges and specific needs. Lesson Study provides a global perspective on the development of LS worldwide, exploring its impact on innovation, creativity, curricula and achievement in a variety of contexts. It will be of key interest to practitioners in schools and teacher education institutions, researchers, and policy and decision-makers at local, national and international levels. The book’s explicit focus on the leadership of local authorities will also make it valuable reading for all leaders of professional development and school improvement.
