The Listener Crossword has appeared in The Times every Saturday since March 1991, having previously appeared in the eponymous magazine. The crossword is recognized as being one of the most fiendish around, requiring solvers to push beyond the boundaries of conventional solving skills. Each of the 60 examples chosen for inclusion in this volume has an added twist, be it a literary connection, deliberately misspelt definitions or a mathematical conundrum, which, through the complete solving of the crossword, lead to the actual solution.

This is a combined edition of three previously separately published books of puzzles, The Listener 50 Crossword Puzzles, Book 1, Book 2, and Book 3. The 150 puzzles first appeared in the Listener between 1980 and 1985. Compiled by RWH (Ruth Hendry), the crosswords have been a popular feature of the Listener since 1940.
