Synopsis The Lineback To My Beginning by : Walt Lineback

Walt was born in Nelsonville, a small town in southeastern Ohio, whose population has been around 5,000 for the last hundred years. In this book he tells us about many extraordinary events that he survived from the age of three to eighteen while growing up in Nelsonville. Like the time he almost drowned in the creek below their home on 969 Pleasant View Avenue. Or taking rabies shots when their pet dogs got rabies from a pack of wild dogs that roamed the hills on the other side of the valley. Or surviving car wrecks when the cars were totaled and there were no seat belts then. He graduated from NHS in 1960 in a class of 56, so you knew everyone and everyone knew you and your business. You didn’t do anything without the whole town finding out very quickly what happened. So, when he broke the taillight in his Dad’s car, Dad knew about it before he got home. Or, when he drove that same car and took his girl friend all the way to Columbus to the Kahiki Supper Club for dinner one time, and, ruined his older brother’s white sport coat and Tanya’s new dress when an orange fountain exploded while they waited in the Kahiki’s crowded lobby, somehow people knew about the incident by the time they got back to Nelsonville. They quickly told a story to their friends first, then their parents, that some kid sprayed orange soda all over them at the high school dance that evening. And the best part of that adventure was, that the dinner was free if they didn’t take the free dry cleaning offer from the Kahiki. That is the way small towns were back then. Walt went on to work his way through Ohio University and eventually earned three degrees from there and a Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton in 1980. Walt’s adventures after finishing High School in 1960, like Ohio University, the party school, Western Electric in Columbus, and the Army and Vietnam, are in his next book, The Second Eighteen Plus.

Synopsis The Complete Guide to Endurance Riding and Competition by : Donna Snyder-Smith

First Star to the Right and Straight on Till Morning.... At the 90-mile vet check she sat in the middle of the road crying, claiming extreme illness and trying to avoid her nightmarish fears her horse would die of founder or colic, or anything. The last ten miles of trail stretched forever in her mind, black like licorice taffy. After a large measure of TLC from her patient and understanding crew, she and the gelding were out of the check and on the trail again. The entire universe shrank to center on the pair in the moonlight. Time stopped and the world faded into nothingness. They were running in a small, ever-changing pocket of existence, the rhythm of his hooves, the heartbeat of that universe. Ribbons and trail appeared before them and lost substance as they moved past. For the rider, clinging to the saddle, there was no thought, no pain, no emotion, only the instinctive drive to chase past each ribbon as it appeared. Suddenly her horse jumped sideways, eyes and ears frozen forward. Awakened from her trance, she oriented herself on his suspected woods troll, a familiar embankment that meant they were a half-mile from home. Easing him past the scary object, she sent the gelding on, clinging to his neck. As his soft lope swept them across the finish line, she wanted to laugh out loud or cry, but was unable to summon the strength for either. A few small tears trickled down her cheek, the only sign of the enormous pride she felt inside. Synopsis Viking For Life by : Scott Studwell

An unforgettable look at a lifetime of Vikings football packed with Studwell's insights into the game, on and off the field. In professional football, careers are often short and turnover is a constant. So when one man's career spans more than four decades with one organization, it is quite an achievement. Scott Studwell did just that with the Minnesota Vikings. As a linebacker, Studwell totaled a Vikings record 1,981 tackles in 14 seasons, reaching two Pro Bowls. After retiring as a player after the 1990 season, Studwell moved into the Vikings' player personnel department and served as the team's Director of College Scouting. In Viking for Life: A Four-Decade Football Love Affair, Studwell shares stories from the Vikings teams of the 1970s and '80s under head coaches Bud Grant and Jerry Burns, teams that reached two NFC championship games. He also provides rare insight into his three decades in the Vikings' scouting department and draft room, during which he helped the Vikings identify countless stars, including Randy Moss, Adrian Peterson, and Harrison Smith. In the pages of this striking memoir, Studwell shares a passion for the Vikings that he calls "a dream come true."

Synopsis A COMPARTMENTALIZED LIFE by : John Stephen Parker

In this book, John Stephen Parker acknowledges that from the moment he began to gain his own personal beliefs and establish his own foundation for life as a young boy, he also gained an ability to compartmentalize people, events, and experiences. John has found that this is both a blessing and a curse to have been given this ability. Having seen a great deal of life from both ends of the spectrum, and living through year after year with all the changes, both triumphant and tragic, that has compounded his life, he can tell you that he sees in his mind that which sometimes his own eyes and the eyes of others doubt. His stories are about true life, love, relationships, marriage, music, all with the backdrop of a career in coaching, and trials that go along with the profession. This book focuses on many of the tribulations of life, with many humorous and occasionally disheartening sagas of which many people will without a doubt relate to.
