Synopsis The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Illustrated (the Faber Classic) by : Washington Irving
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a gothic story by American author Washington Irving, contained in his collection of 34 essays and short stories titled The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.. Written while Irving was living abroad in Birmingham, England, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was first published in 1820. Along with Irving's companion piece "Rip Van Winkle", "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is among the earliest examples of American fiction with enduring popularity, especially during Halloween because of a character known as the Headless Horseman believed to be a Hessian soldier who was decapitated by a cannonball in battle. In 1949, the second film adaptation was produced by Walt Disney as one of two segments in the package film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

Synopsis Collected Classic Horror Stories. Illustrated by : Algernon Blackwood
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. These facts few psychologists will dispute, and their admitted truth must establish for all time the genuineness and dignity of the weirdly horrible tale as a literary form… As may naturally be expected of a form so closely connected with primal emotion, the horror-tale is as old as human thought and speech themselves. Synopsis The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel by : Alyssa Palombo
A passionate romance leads to supernatural mystery in this historical thriller based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. When Sleepy Hollow’s new schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, arrives in the spooky little village, Katrina Van Tassel is instantly drawn to him. Through their shared love of books and music, they form a friendship that quickly develops into romance. Ichabod knows he has nothing to offer the wealthy Katrina—unlike her childhood friend-turned-enemy, Brom Van Brunt, who is the suitor Katrina’s father favors. But when romance gives way to passion, Ichabod and Katrina sneak into the woods after dark to be together—all while praying they do not catch sight of Sleepy Hollow’s legendary Headless Horseman. That is, until All Hallows’s Eve, when Ichabod suddenly disappears, leaving Katrina alone and in a perilous position. Enlisting the help of her friend—and rumored witch—Charlotte Jansen, Katrina seeks the truth of Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. What they find forces Katrina to question everything she once knew, and to wonder if the Headless Horseman is perhaps more than just a story after all.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Original publication: 1820 The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been a classic of American literature for nearly two centuries. This book is a delightful book about the schoolmaster Ichabod Crane and his mishaps with the town's specter, known as the Headless Horseman. Written by Washington Irving, America's first international author, and edited and formatted for your Kindle, this eBook is sure to be the perfect addition to your collection of American classics. The "Legend" relates the tale of Ichabod Crane, a lean, lanky and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer, Baltus Van Tassel. Crane, a Yankee and an outsider, sees marriage to Katrina as a means of procuring Van Tassel's extravagant wealth. Bones, the local hero, vies with Ichabod for Katrina's hand, playing a series of pranks on the jittery schoolmaster – who later comes “face to face” with the town specter known as the Headless Horseman. Chapters: 9 Plus a Postscript Words: 12,600 This book is great for schools, teachers and students or for the casual reader, and makes a wonderful addition to any classic literary library ABOUT US: At Pure Snow Publishing we have taken the time and care into formatting this book to make it the best possible reading experience.
