Synopsis The Last Roundhead by : Jemahl Evans
"The research is impeccable and the writing full of verve." Antonia Senior, The Times 1642. England has been plunged into a Civil War. Blandford Candy is sent to London, after an illicit affair, and joins the Roundhead army to fight against the King, taking part in the Battle of Edgehill. A reluctant hero if ever there was one, he becomes a spy for the cause - and, through luck or judgement, uncovers more than one Royalist plot. His love of wine and the fairer sex prove both a curse and a blessing for the agent.Blandford soon earns the enmity of the King's spy mistress Jane Whorwood, and patronage of the great parliamentarian leader John Hampden. As well as navigating the politics and perils of the Civil War Blandford must also deal with members of his family, who turn out to be to be far more duplicitous and ruthless than any rival agent. To survive, Blandford must choose a side. The Last Roundhead is the first book in the acclaimed series of novels, charting the adventures of Sir Blandford Candy during the English Civil War. Synopsis The English Civil War by : Diane Purkiss
In this compelling history of the violent struggle between the monarchy and Parliament that tore apart seventeenth-century England, a rising star among British historians sheds new light on the people who fought and died through those tumultuous years. Drawing on exciting new sources, including letters, memoirs, ballads, plays, illustrations, and even cookbooks, Diane Purkiss creates a rich and nuanced portrait of this turbulent era. The English Civil War’s dramatic consequences-rejecting the divine right monarchy in favor of parliamentary rule-continue to influence our lives, and in this colorful narrative, Purkiss vividly brings to life the history that changed the course of Western government.

Synopsis Hugh Gwyeth: A Roundhead Cavalier by : Beulah Marie Dix
Hugh Gwyeth presents the exciting story of an adventurous teenager during the Cromwellian period. In the title, the young boy, Hugh Gwyeth, is addressed as a roundhead and a cavalier because he remains conflicted about who he should extend his support to during the Civil War. The roundheads supported Cromwell and chose the Parliament of England, seeking a constitutional monarchy. They fought against the Cavaliers, who were royalists supporting King Charles I and sought absolute monarchy. The answer to who he finally chooses unfolds later in the novel. American author Beulah Marie Dix relied mainly on historically popular military events when writing. It's a subject she chose in Hugh Gwyeth as well. Her incredible writing style, vivid descriptions of the events, and powerful characterization made this work an instant hit.

Synopsis The Black Avons II - Roundhead and Cavalier by : Edgar Wallace
This is an absorbing work by Edgar Wallace, a British novelist, playwright, and journalist who was a famous writer of detective and suspense stories. Excerpt "IN conformity with the rule and practice of our family, I, Stephen Avon, Knight, and Alderman of the City of London (I make these descriptions from a desire to be identified rather than from any sense of vanity, for it ill becomes a man to boast of the favours which Almighty God has bestowed upon him) take up my task to describe those events which accompany, as it were, the lives of those dark members of my family, who are called the Black Avons."
