Synopsis The Italian 100 by : Stephen J. Spignesi
An invaluable addition to the Citadel 100 series that ranks the most prominent Italian figures in history--from the Chairman of the Board to the Mayor of New York City Now more than ever, Americans have entered into a passionate love affair with all things Italian, from the world-changing adventures of Christopher Columbus to the drama of opera to Italian cinema to the epic family saga of The Sopranos. The Italian 100 chronicles the rich legacy of Italians and Italian-Americans in a ranking of the most influential 100 and the enduring nature of their contributions. The giants who immeasurably changed the size and shape of our world--Galileo (ranked #1), Christopher Columbus (#2), and Marconi (#3)--grace the top of the list, while artistic and literary giants such as Michaelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Petrarch, and Dante feature prominently. Also profiled are the brilliant (and sometimes despotic) political leaders such as Niccolo Machiavelli, Lorenzo de' Medici, Garibaldi, Rudolph Giuliani, and Benito Mussolini, and geniuses of music, theater, and film such as Vivaldi, Puccini, Pavarotti, Fellini, Scorcese, and Sinatra. The Italian 100 also highlights less-familiar figures who have left legacies of equal magnitude, such as Guido of Arezzo, who invented the musical staff: Leonardo Fibonacci, who introduced Arabic numerals to the Western world, Saint Fabiola, the Roman matron credited with cofounding the first public hospital in Western Europe; and Bartolommeo Cristofori, inventor of the modern piano. Part cultural companion, part historical reference, and part celebration, The Italian 100 is a fresh and sometimes controversial look at a people who, throughout more than fifteencenturies, have had an enormous and profound effect on every aspect of the modern world.

Synopsis Italian Short Stories for Beginners by : Lingo Lingo Mastery
Do you know what the hardest thing for an Italian learner is? Finding PROPER reading material that they can handle...which is precisely the reason we've written this book! Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes -- it's not entertaining, useful or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning at all! In this book we have compiled 20 easy-to-read, compelling and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful Italian tongue. How Italian Short Stories for Beginners works: Each story will involve an important lesson of the tools in the Italian language (Verbs, Adjectives, Past Tense, Giving Directions, and more), involving an interesting and entertaining story with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations. The summaries follow a synopsis in Italian and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about. At the end of those summaries, you'll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance! Finally, you'll be provided with a set of tricky questions in Italian, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don't worry if you don't know the answer to any -- we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating! So look no further! Synopsis The Decameron by : Giovanni Boccaccio
In the time of a devastating pandemic, seven women and three men withdraw to a country estate outside Florence to give themselves a diversion from the death around them. Once there, they decide to spend some time each day telling stories, each of the ten to tell one story each day. They do this for ten days, with a few other days of rest in between, resulting in the 100 stories of the Decameron. The Decameron was written after the Black Plague spread through Italy in 1348. Most of the tales did not originate with Boccaccio; some of them were centuries old already in his time, but Boccaccio imbued them all with his distinctive style. The stories run the gamut from tragedy to comedy, from lewd to inspiring, and sometimes all of those at once. They also provide a detailed picture of daily life in fourteenth-century Italy.

Synopsis Risotto and Beyond by : John Coletta
Fresh off winning 1st place in the Italian category and 2nd place in the rice category at the 2019 Gourmand International Cookbook Awards, this book is a definitive guide to the Italian rice-cookery repertoire. From acclaimed Chicago chef and restaurateur John Coletta comes a recipe collection focusing on a relatively unexplored area of Italian cuisine—rice cookery. Rice is a staple of northern Italy, where all Italian rice is produced. A rich and varied rice-based cookery has developed in this region. These 100 authentic dishes bring the full range of Italian rice cooking into the home kitchen, from familiar dishes—arancini, crochettes, risotti, and rice puddings—to more unusual offerings such as rice salads, soups, fritters, bracioli, and gelatos. Coletta shares his expertise about Italian rice types and cooking methods, and provides foolproof instructions for making perfect rice every time. He also includes background about the rice varieties and where they can be purchased. Among the recipes are Rice Crostini with Ricotta and Oregano; Rice Soup with Shrimp and Leeks; Rice Salad with Bresaola and Parmigiano Reggiano; Risotta alla Carbonara; Artichokes Stuffed with Lemon and Thyme Risotto; Braised Turkey Rolls with Chestnut Risotto, Pancetta, and Sage; and Rice Crepes with Nutella. Synopsis Juve! by : Herbie Sykes
The definitive history of the iconic football club: the glory, the scandal, the stars and its enduring influence on Italian life. Juventus utterly dominates the Italian game. Home to some of the biggest names in sport, it has won title after title, trophy after trophy. However, parallel to the success and myth, there's a murkier reality. For one hundred years the club and its billionaire owners, the Agnelli family, have been synonymous with match-fixing, doping, political chicanery and more. While La Vecchia Signora remains Italy's best-supported team, it's also its most despised. Juve! charts the story of Italy's great sporting dynasty, chronicling the triumphs and tragedies of the Agnellis, and of the icons - Boniperti, Del Piero, Ronaldo - who have been their sporting emissaries for almost a century. The pride of Italy or its dark heart? Footballing colossus or vanity project? With this unique institution, as with so much about life in Italy, things are seldom black and white... 'Superbly entertaining and incisive' TLS 'A compelling case for a football club encapsulating the entire psyche of Italy' Observer

Synopsis Moto Guzzi by : Jeffrey Schnapp
This book tells the story of one of the world’s most innovative, beloved, and famous motorcycle manufacturers on its 100th anniversary. In 1921, Giorgio Parodi founded Moto Guzzi with the mechanic Carlo Guzzi. The purpose of the company was to design innovative motorcycles in the Mandello del Lario headquarters on Lake Como, where the factory still stands today. Moto Guzzi bikes immediately stood out for their high performance and technical sophistication. Their greatness was proven by competition wins, and these sporting triumphs were accompanied by commercial success that made Moto Guzzi the most important motorcycle manufacturer in Italy. These victories did not happen by chance, but were the result of continuous innovation. The company soon decided to withdraw from competitions because of its “manifest superiority” and instead focused on production. It has since continued to churn out iconic innovations and models, like the California, which was chosen by the LAPD for their patrols. Moto Guzzi is no longer just a motorcycle but, like Harley-Davidson, it has become a style, a philosophy and a sign of belonging to the Guzzi tribe that unites movie stars like Ewan McGregor with acclaimed designers like Tom Dixon, musicians like Billy Joel, and astronauts such as Paolo Nespoli.
