Synopsis Every Business Needs an Angel by : John May
What’s the biggest problem most entrepreneurs face? Raising money: Without cash, you can’t get a business off the ground or keep it running. However, many entrepreneurs have a problem. On one hand, the traditional sources of financing—family, friends, personal savings, the local bank—are often inadequate. On the other, the venture capitalists who have played such an important role in the high-tech industry are interested only in investing much higher sums than most entrepreneurs need. Enter angels: a new type of investor looking to invest between $100,000 and $1,000,000 in a company. There are about three million angel investors, and there’s a huge market of entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs who want to learn how to attract angels’ interest—and their money. John May and Cal Simmons are at the forefront of this trend. Not only do they have years of experience in advising, managing, and investing in early-stage companies, they are also the originators of The Dinner Club, a Washington, D.C.–based group of successful businesspeople who hear pitches by entrepreneurs seeking funding and then decide whether to invest their own or the club’s money in those entrepreneurial ideas. Every Business Needs an Angel offers a fly-on-the-wall look at how angel investors evaluate new entrepreneurial ideas, and provides a wealth of practical advice and insight for the countless entrepreneurs seeking help in their quest to find investors for their businesses. The book covers all phases of the process of finding angels and persuading them to invest, drawing on many examples of real-world companies that have pitched angels successfully—as well as unsuccessfully. These entrepreneurs are in a broad range of industries—from high-technology companies to more traditional businesses as diverse as breweries and concierge services—some quite well-known, like Nantucket Nectars and Preview Travel, whose founders had their own guardian angels. For entrepreneurs who need money and advice on how to find it, the authors offer enormous insight into this new breed of investor. As the title says, every business needs an angel; this book tells you how to find one.

Synopsis Angel Manifesto by : Michael Foot
A new political party - the Angels - appears in British politics. Part cult, part charity, the Angels are well funded, well-led by Michael (named after the Archangel). Their policies are designed to appeal across the UK electorate. They are linked with a Muslim group, the 2 drawn together by the fact that the Qur'an was dictated by the Angel Gabriel. Andrew, who works under cover in a London bank, is tasked to work his way into the Angels and establish their true agenda. In the process of getting accepted, Andrew is subjected to a series of 'tests' - 'labour of Hercules - set by the Leader of the Angels to monitor Andrew's abilities and commitment. These tests force Andre to work with a long-time Angel, Chloe, with whom he falls in love. Andrew gets accepted as a member of the inner circle of Angel advisors and helps to frame a set of policies for the Election. He becomes a fervent supporter of the new cause. A series of traumatic events - ending with an attempted assassination of the Angel's leader - leads up to the Election and helps the Angels break the stranglehold of the UK's established parties. The party is poised to take power; but this is to be very different Government from anything we have seen before.

Synopsis Fool's Gold? by : Scott Shane
The stereotype of the "angel investor" is a retired wealthy entrepreneur who sees potential, asks tough questions, takes a large stake, and in a few years makes a massive return in an IPO. This outsider fills the gap between the venture capitalist and the professional investor, swooping in with cash and expertise to bring dreams to fruition. Unfortunately, Shane observes, this figure bears no relationship to reality. In Fool's Gold, he draws on hard data from the Federal Reserve and other sources to paint the first reliable group portrait of the lionized angel investors. Surprisingly, he finds that they are fewer, contribute less, and involve themselves in fewer start-ups than the conventional wisdom suggests. Most angels typically still have their day jobs, make investments of $10,000 or less, and take little or no role in assisting entrepreneurs build their companies. Few of the companies they put money into arrive at IPOs, let alone massive returns. But angels can play a critical role, he writes, if the fantasy is abandoned by all concerned. Drawing on his rich store of data, Shane offers recommendations to entrepreneurs and angels alike for the most productive use of angel investing, and suggests how policymakers can encourage it. Particularly promising are angel groups, which pool knowledge and money for wiser and more productive investments. In groups, angels can rely on each other's expertise, share the labor of performing due diligence, and generally insure that their money is being placed--and used--wisely. Fostering the formation of such groups may be the single most important thing that government can do to boost angel investing. Massively researched and briskly written, Fools' Gold offers the first real resource on this misunderstood aspect of our entrepreneurial system.
