An up-to-date, well illustrated identification manual for the Fennoscandian and Danish Dytiscidae has been wanting for decades. This work is based on the latest advances in synonymy and taxonomy of the family, and on the study of thousands of specimens in collections and field.

This volume treats dance flies of the genus Empis (Diptera, Empididae) of Fennoscandia and NW Europe. Altogether, 64 species in 11 subgenera are recognized. Each species is briefly described and the main differential characters are fully illustrated, with full data on synonymy, type specimens, distribution and biology. Phylogeny and classification are also treated.

The book provides richly illustrated identification keys and descriptions of the ca. 240 Nordic springtail species of Entomobryomorpha and Symphypleona, thus completing the survey which was introduced with the first volume on Poduromorpha in 1998.

This work is the third of a projected group of six volumes on Empidoidea (Diptera, Brachycera) of Fennoscandia and Denmark, and the first concerning the true Empididae, the dance flies, of the taxonomically difficult genus Empis. In total, 64 species and 11 subgenera are treated, including the faunas of Great Britain and the Netherlands. Each subgenus is briefly characterized, with data on phylogeny, distribution, biology, and number of species. The species are fully described and differential characters are illustrated, including the male genitalia. Data are provided for occurrence and distribution, and epigamic and swarming behaviour are reviewed. The Empididae (Diptera) of Fennoscandia and Denmark will serve not only dipterists, but also taxonomists and museologists. It will also be useful to researchers in ecology, zoogeography, evolutionary biology, agriculture and environmental studies.

This is the first part of a multivolume monograph dealing with the about 400 species of springtails (Collembola) which are known to occur in the Nordic countries, including the Arctic Islands. Volume 1 contains richly illustrated identification keys and full descriptions of 161 species of the section Poduromorpha. The geographical distribution and the preferred natural habitats of the species are summarised. New morphological concepts in species diagnostics are introduced, in particular concerning the mouthparts' morphology which greatly aids in precise identification of the many difficult species of the family Onychiuridae. The book will be indispensable to everyone working with springtail identification in northern Europe. The introduction of new diagnostic characters will be of universal interest to any Collembola taxonomist.

The system of classification of the Psylloidea followed here is that of Burckhardt. For each species the distribution in and outside Denmark and Fennoscandia is briefly given. The terminalia of all species (m/f) have been figured, and the 5th instar nymphs of nearly all the species have been keyed and figured.

This volume treats part of Macrosphini (Aphididae: Aphidinae), with keys to all genera occuring in Scandinavia or expected to be found there in the future and descriptions of some of them, including "Anuraphis, Brevicoryne, Coloradoa and Cavariella; Myzus, Nasonovia, Capitophorus" and "Macrosiphum" will be treated in the fifth volume, "Uroleucon" and "Megoura" in the sixth volume together with Lachnidae. It includes several drawings, taxonomical and biological notes and notes to distribution.
