Forged by the seventh-generation grandson of Adam, used to pierce the side of Christ at the Crucifixion, and possessed by some of history’s most powerful men–Constantine, Attila the Hun, Adolf Hitler, Harry Truman–the Holy Lance is about to be used again. The Forces of Evil intend to use the ancient relic to launch the Hades Project and bring humankind to its knees. From the Kremlin to the Vatican to an Ethiopian church housing the Ark of the Covenant, Cotten Stone races to find the Holy Lance. Time is running out as Cotten confronts the man who holds in his hand the destiny of the world, a man who died more than 85 years earlier. The characters, the pacing and the amazing premise of this series are all first-rate. Cotten Stone is a heroine for the ages. Sholes & Moore are very talented writers indeed.” — Douglas Preston, New York Times bestselling co-author of Relic

Synopsis Rock Mechanics with Emphasis on Stress by : Fritz Rummel
On a global scale, crustal stresses are the result of plate tectonics. On a regional basis, the knowledge of stresses is of vital interest for deep mining, geothermal heat exploitation for electricity generation from deep hot rock formations, safe underground hazardous waste disposal scenarios in impermeable rock, and large-scale tunneling for high-speed traffic. This book originated in a workshop on Rock Mechanics with Emphasis on In-Situ Stress. The areas of focus includes a deeper understanding of large earthquake focal mechanics, the "Hot Dry Rock" (HDR) concept of geothermal energy exploitation, and the development of strategies for the stimulation of deep-seated fresh water reservoirs. Rock Mechanics with Emphasis on Stress will be of interest to geologists, seismologists, and geotechnical and civil engineers.

Synopsis SUBTECH ’91 by : Society for Underwater Technology (SUT)
The concept of using flexible, reelable pipe to transport liquids, gases, and vapours is not a new one. As early as the 1940s a steel braided elastomeric pipeline was developed for the Allied Forces in order to transport fuels to support the Normandy Beacheads. In fact, the longest flexible pipeline ever constructed is likely to be that laid across the English Channel as part of 'Operation Pluto'. The methodology used to handle and instal such pipe is also not new. Ellis (1943, London) in an early patent specification identifies three basic objectives for a flexible pipelining method. These are: prefabrication of the pipe onshore; coiling of the pipe on suitable drums or reels; and using such reels to lay pipe from anchored or motorised barges. The design concept for flexible pipe is also not a new invention given that flexible hoses and umbilicals have been in service for more than sixty years. A break-through was however achieved by the French Institute of Petroleum in the early 1970s when they developed an improved steel reinforced pipe structure having a high axial loading capaci ty which utilised corrosion and hydrocarbon resistant polymers to extend pipe service lifetime. This early pipe design utilised established cable making techniques to apply steel armour and axially and radially reinforce alternating layers of polymer sheaths. The pipe was primarily developed as a flowline for use in static seabed applications.

Synopsis The Last Secret by : Lynn Sholes
“Maybe we’re looking at the handwriting of God . . .” A 5000-year-old crystal tablet is unearthed among the ruins of an ancient civilization in the cloud-shrouded Peruvian Andes. Inscribed upon its surface are cryptic glyphs revealing a secret that could affect everyone on Earth. But before it can be translated, it is destroyed. Another tablet, found in crumbling Anasazi ruins beneath the towering mesas of New Mexico, also disappears before the secret is revealed. Of the twelve original tablets given by God to the spiritual leaders of the ancient world, just one remains. The single clue to its location: "To enter the Kingdom of God, you must thread the needle." Only one person can solve the clue and decipher the message to the world—Cotten Stone, the daughter of an angel. Racing to recover the last secret before the Fallen Ones do, Cotten comes face to face with her terrifying destiny—a legacy to battle the Son of the Dawn until the End of Days.
