Synopsis The Secret by : Byron Preiss

The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

Join Marly, Isla, and Sai, three code-cracking kids on the hunt for an old neighbor's hidden treasure. Marly always knew Mr. Summerling as her friendly neighbor living in the big, old house next-door. But when news of Mr. Summerling's death arrives at her doorstep, Marly is brought into a treasure hunt of her own. In Mr. Summerling's will, he's left a treasure for Marly and her two classmates, Isla and Sai. The catch? They have to solve a series of riddles, puzzles, and clues to find its location. And not only that, they have to work together on it -- which Marly is not looking forward to. But with no other choice, she, Isla, and Sai set off on the hunt. Can the three kids come together to crack the code? And even if they do solve the clues... what could Mr. Summerling possibly have left them?

Synopsis Treasure of Saint-Lazare (Large Print) by : John Pearce

His long-ago lover brings a cryptic letter to Paris, pulling Eddie Grant reluctantly into a web of intrigue and death - but giving him one slim chance to find the terrorists who murdered his family seven years before. The letter sparks a dangerous quest across Paris, the Loire Valley, and the gleaming beaches of the Florida Gulf Coast for the most valuable Nazi loot that remains missing, a famous Raphael self-portrait from the early 16th century. The painting and the crates of bullion that accompanied it were intended to finance the Fourth Reich, or so the rumors said.Jen Wetzmuller, daughter of his late father's World War II colleague in American Army intelligence, found the letter after her father was run down by a car in the streets of Sarasota. For Eddie, it brings the long-cold case of his family's murder back to life. Its clues propel him from his Paris home to Florida, where he barely escapes with his life. Then it's back home, to burrow into the darkest reaches of the German occupation.Along the way, he and Jen restart the brief, fiercely passionate affair that he abandoned, to his regret, 20 years before. Most of all, Treasure of Saint-Lazare is a novel of Paris. The painting, Portrait of a Young Man, remains missing, although the Polish government said recently that it still exists and is in a safe place."Bravo!" (Ronald Rosbottom, author of When Paris Went Dark)"An exceptionally well written book with a fast-paced story line and many plot surprises." (Connield, Amazon reviewer)A "fast-paced thriller spanning the globe from Paris to the states." (Carole P. Roman, Amazon reviewer)"I read it once and then waited a week and read it again." (Amazon reviewer)

Synopsis Hidden Treasure by : Gangaji

An inspiring new book from one of our greatest living spiritual teachers. All of these stories teach us that we aren't who we think we are. How we have defined ourselves is not the truth of ourselves. What we think we must have is already present, and when we think we have lost the value of our lives, it is still here if we know where to look. -from Hidden Treasure In this life-changing book, renowned spiritual teacher Gangaji uses the telling of her own life story to help readers uncover the truth of their own. Antoinette (Toni) Roberson Varner was given the name Gangaji by her teacher Sri H. W. L. Poonja in 1990. Before that meeting, she had pursued many paths to enlightenment. Brought up in the 1950s in the racially divided south, she married young and had a daughter. Following the dissolution of her first marriage, she moved to Northern California and immersed herself fully in the spiritual culture that was flourishing there-but all her efforts to achieve lasting fulfillment ultimately fell short. In the wake of her disillusionment, she made a final prayer for help. In 1990, the answer to her prayer came unexpectedly, taking her to India and to the meeting that would change everything. There on the banks of the river Ganges, she met Poonja, also known as Papaji, who opened her mind to the eternal presence of being. In Hidden Treasure, Gangaji guides readers to the realization that once they can uncover and speak the truth about themselves, deep and lasting contentment is entirely possible.
