Synopsis The Eternal Bride by : Thomas Seller
Draper and MacCarey, two vacationing mountain climbers in Switzerland, are mystified by an old man who sits patiently in the lobby of the inn where they are staying and watches ceaselessly out the window as if he were waiting for some one to come. When he tells them that he's waiting for his bride, that this is his honeymoon, that he's been married for fifty years, and that his bride is still only twenty years old, they're sure he must be crazy. When, however, as a result of a terrific avalanche, some old ice crevasses are opened up, and a beautiful young girl, dressed in the mountain climbing fashion of fifty years ago, is rescued from one of them in an apparently death-like frozen state, and is revived to life and brought back to the inn by two mountain climbers, Draper and MacCarey begin to wonder if, after all, the old man's faith in his bride's ultimate return has not transcended all the laws of nature. But the old man has failed to reckon on one thing: that while his bride has remained as young and beautiful as the day he married her fifty years ago, he himself has grown old and wrinkled. She doesn't recognize him. And so, without telling her who he is, he extracts a promise from her that she will remain true to her husband always and wait for him wherever he may be. Then he goes off into the night.

Synopsis Badgley Mischka by : Mark Badgley
This lavish volume is the first to celebrate the designs of duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka, the authorities on the evening dress. After meeting at Parsons School of Design in New York and embarking on separate apprenticeships at major fashion houses, Mark Badgley and James Mischka joined forces to form Badgley Mischka in 1988. By the time Winona Ryder walked the red carpet at the 1996 Academy Awards in their gown encrusted in crystal and pearl beads, the design duo had become synonymous with elegant and luxurious evening dresses. Informed by a streamlined 1940s Hollywood silhouette while employing exquisite beads crafted in India, Badgley Mischka have become the arbiters of old Hollywood glamour. Their commitment to classic American beauty continues to reign on the red carpet today. As Mark and James say, “glamour always works.” Badgley Mischka follow in the great haute-couture tradition of legendary fashion houses such as Christian Dior and Adrian, who continue to inspire them season after season. These pages showcase the long-celebrated silhouettes—skinny beaded dresses, fishtail and ball gowns, and cocktail dresses—inspired by the masters of a bygone era. Embellished modern evening gowns imbued with the allure of Hollywood’s golden age have been Badgley Mischka’s signature voice for more than twenty-five years, and this book is a celebration of the evening dress in all its shimmering glory.

Synopsis The Eternal Woman by : Gertrud Freiin von Le Fort
When The Eternal Woman was first published in Germany, Europe was a battlefield of modern ideologies that would sweep away millions of lives in war and genocide. Denying the Creator, who made male and female, Nazism and Communism could only fail to appreciate the true meaning of the feminine and reduce woman to a mere instrument of the state. In the name of liberating her from the so-called tyranny of Christianity, atheism, in any form, leads to woman's enslavement. With penetrating insight Gertrud von le Fort understood the war on womanhood, and consequently on motherhood, that always coincides with an attack on the faith of the Catholic Church, which she embraced at the age of 50 in 1926. In The Eternal Woman, she counters the modern assault on the feminine not with polemical argument but with perhaps the most beautiful meditation on womanhood ever written. Taking Mary, Virgin and Mother, as her model, von le Fort reflects on the significance of woman's spiritual and physical receptivity that constitutes her very essence, as well as her role in both the creation and redemption of human beings. Mary's fiat to God is the pathway to our salvation, as it is inextricably linked with the obedience unto death of Jesus her son. Like the Son's acceptance of the Cross, Mary's acceptance of her maternity symbolizes for all mankind the self-surrender to the Creator required of every human soul. Since any woman's acceptance of motherhood is likewise a yes to God, when womanhood and motherhood are properly understood and appreciated, the nature of the soul's relationship to God is revealed.

Synopsis And the Bride Closed the Door by : Ronit Matalon
A young bride shuts herself up in a bedroom on her wedding day, refusing to get married. In this moving and humorous look at contemporary Israel and the chaotic ups and downs of love everywhere, her family gathers outside the locked door, not knowing what to do. The bride's mother has lost a younger daughter in unclear circumstances. Her grandmother is hard of hearing, yet seems to understand her better than anyone. A male cousin who likes to wear women’s clothes and jewelry clings to his grandmother like a little boy. The family tries an array of unusual tactics to ensure the wedding goes ahead, including calling in a psychologist specializing in brides who change their mind and a ladder truck from the Palestinian Authority electrical company. The only communication they receive from behind the door are scribbled notes, one of them a cryptic poem about a prodigal daughter returning home. The harder they try to reach the defiant woman, the more the despairing groom is convinced that her refusal should be respected. But what, exactly, ought to be respected? Is this merely a case of cold feet? A feminist statement? Or a mourning ritual for a lost sister? This provocative and highly entertaining novel lingers long after its final page.
