This is the second volume of the series bearing the title ‘The Essence of Islam’, the first volume of which was published in 1979. Like the first volume it sets out in the words of the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian himself, a summary of his exposition of eighteen further topics which are listed in the table of contents. The first volume has had a very encouraging reception, and it is hoped that the second volume of the series will be accorded the same degree of reception. It will be appreciated that the topics included in this volume deal with a variety of subjects on which the teachings of Islam are not widely known. This volume should help seekers after truth to arrive at a true understanding of these teachings, at a time when a great deal of interest has been stimulated in various aspects of Islam, in consequence of the disparity between the true teachings of Islam and the practice of certain sections of orthodox Muslim communities in that context.

This volume, the first of a series, sets out, in the words of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself, a summary of his exposition of four outstanding topics, namely, Islam; Allah, the Exalted; the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him; and the Holy Quran. The original compilation, in Urdu, from which these extracts have been translated into English, was collated with great care and diligence by Syed Daud Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him.

Contrary to mythical tale that prophets descend from heavens like heroes, they are normal human beings. They suffer trials and tribulations. Their followers gain glory not through the toils of someone else but through their own sacrifices. These prophets turn the people away from materialism and return them to their Creator. This revival requires Divine intervention. In this short book, the author examines the prophecies in Islam about the Imam Mahdi and Second Coming of Jesus i.e. Promised Messiah. The Economic System of Islam, is an English version of a lecture delivered in Urdu by Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad, the Second Khalifah Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to a gathering of academia in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1945. The book presents a detailed account of the teachings of Islam regarding the system of economics. It demonstrates that economic system of Islam is placed within the broader teachings of Islam, with the objective of attaining the pleasure of Allah and everlasting bliss in the Hereafter. It provides for a healthy and progressive society in which the basic needs of all are met, and incentives for achieving excellence are provided, with due regard to justice and fair play. The lecture then makes a critical evaluation of the economic aspects of Communism. It provides ample evidence that Communism has failed in its pretensions of promoting justice and equality both within its own borders and in international affairs. It brings out serious objections against Communism from a religious point of view, and cites three prophecies about the decline of Communism.
