Synopsis The Emerett Nicholson Papers and the Sharp, Nicholson, and Thompson Families of East Texas by : Gilmer T. Woods
Family history and genealogy of Emerett Mary Sharp Nicholson (1834-1900), daughter of James Sharp and Isabella Mary Griffith, who was born in Sandusky, Ohio, and died in Shelbyville, Shelby Co., Texas. She was married to Peter Edward Nicholson (1833-1863), a son of John and Mary McIver Nicholson, in 1856. He was born in Tennessee, and died in Sabine Co., Texas. The Sharp family moved to Texas in 1850 and settled in Sabine County. The Nicholson family came from North Carolina to San Augustine, Texas in 1837. The members of the McIver family descend from Kenneth McIver, who was born abt. 1696 in Scotland. The first of the Thompson ancestors to arrive in America was Theophilus Thompson, an Irish seaman, born ca. 1715/20. He had an mercantile business in Norfolk, Va. between 1736 and 1746. His widow and six sons moved to Robeson County, North Carolina after his death. Descendants and relatives lived in Texas, North Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and elsewhere.
