Synopsis God: The Failed Hypothesis by : Victor J. Stenger
Throughout history, arguments for and against the existence of God have been largely confined to philosophy and theology, while science has sat on the sidelines. Despite the fact that science has revolutionized every aspect of human life and greatly clarified our understanding of the world, somehow the notion has arisen that it has nothing to say about the possibility of a supreme being, which much of humanity worships as the source of all reality. This book contends that, if God exists, some evidence for this existence should be detectable by scientific means, especially considering the central role that God is alleged to play in the operation of the universe and the lives of humans. Treating the traditional God concept, as conventionally presented in the Judeo-Christian and Islamic traditions, like any other scientific hypothesis, physicist Stenger examines all of the claims made for God's existence. He considers the latest Intelligent Design arguments as evidence of God's influence in biology. He looks at human behavior for evidence of immaterial souls and the possible effects of prayer. He discusses the findings of physics and astronomy in weighing the suggestions that the universe is the work of a creator and that humans are God's special creation. After evaluating all the scientific evidence, Stenger concludes that beyond a reasonable doubt the universe and life appear exactly as we might expect if there were no God. This paperback edition of the New York Times bestselling hardcover edition contains a new foreword by Christopher Hitchens and a postscript by the author in which he responds to reviewers' criticisms of the original edition.

Synopsis How "God" Works by : Marshall Brain
The founder of HowStuffWorks.com uses objectivity, logic, and critical thinking to explore the question of God’s reality in an honest way. Does God exist? Using an intellectually rigorous, scientific approach, Marshall Brain—the founder of HowStuffWorks.com and author of the How Stuff Works series—sets out to resolve the eternal debate once and for all. With a compelling sense of curiosity, he breaks down mankind’s search for a higher power, tackling such quandaries as: Who is God? What are his attributes? What is God doing and why? How does God interact with humanity? And ultimately, how can humans know with certainty whether God is real or imaginary? How “God” Works is an enlightening journey in critical thinking that challenges readers to boldly approach the subject of personal faith and put aside intuition in favor of objectivity and logic. “Takes readers on a journey of critical thinking . . . it is the combination of all the arguments made and the approach to those arguments that make this book so convincing.” —Skeptic Ink “Brain subjects Christianity to withering analysis . . . He is precise and convincing in his analytical process.” —TheHumanist.com

Synopsis The Existence of God by : François de Salignac de La Mothe- Fénelon
'The Existence of God' is a religious essay written by François de Salignac de La Mothe- Fénelon. He argues that while metaphysical proofs of God's existence may be difficult for most people to grasp, moral proofs are more accessible to everyone, as they are present in the wisdom and power stamped upon everything in nature. Despite this, according to the author, few people pay attention to these proofs due to their worldly concerns and false prejudices. The universe itself is a testament to God's existence, as it bears the stamp of an infinitely powerful and industrious creator, and could not have been the result of chance. This book presents compelling arguments for the existence of God, drawing on comparisons from literature and music to help readers understand the complexities of the universe and the beauty of its creator.

Synopsis The Divine Imprint by : Russell Stannard
The so-called New Atheists receive much publicity, but their demand to be provided with incontrovertible evidence for the existence of God, and that such evidence must come from a scientific examination of the physical world, is the wrong approach. As many theologians and philosophers have claimed, the search for God begins by looking inwards into oneself. But what does that mean? Surely looking inwards we find nothing but the contents of one’s own mind. Where does God come in? It is by the examination of the contents of the mind and trying to understand how they got there that one seeks clues about God’s influence on the mind. Our consciousness bears a resemblance to that Consciousness from which it is directly derived. It bears his imprint. It is from the characteristics of that imprint we get to know what kind of God we are dealing with. Only then can we be open to realizing how that other creation of his, the physical world, also bears his imprint.
