Their first winter together is at an end, and the relationship between Ufrid, Nicky and Herfod has survived, but it has been a troubled association. Herfod has kept his doubts about Ufrid's motives hidden, but he's certain, because the Goddess subverted Ufrid last autumn, that his lover will soon betray him. Complicating the situation, Nicky has lost her sense of foresight. Something is going to happen, and Herfod can only hope that he will survive it long enough to keep Ugoth and his angel from destroying Ufrid.

Synopsis The Disposition of Ashes: Volume Two by : K. M. Frontain

The Ulmeniran army is on the march for home, and with it rides Herfod, the mortal avatar of an inscrutable god who has defied the comprehension of the pantheon for aeons beyond count. Ufrid, uncrowned king of Ulmenir, is well aware of what he takes to bed each night, but it hasn't been easy, and life isn't getting easier. His brother has returned from travels afar with a god in tow, a satyr who may well know who and what Herfod is. Worse yet, there is a secret watcher in the heavens, and he seems disapproving of the current path Herfod has chosen to take in life.

Synopsis The Disposition of Ashes: Volume One by : K. M. Frontain

Ufrid Tyrunath, the heir apparent to the throne of Ulmenir, has been a hero, a leader and a traitor. He’s colluded with the Shadow Master, murdered his father and raped his brother’s wife. In retribution, he’s been forced into slavery to an ancient half-elf female, grandmother of the woman he can never have. How can life get any worse? Oh, it can get much worse, if one has crossed the line of social decency and taken a certain renegade monk for a lover. Slavery will seem an easy burden by the time Ufrid learns the truth of former Abbot Herfod, revered living saint of the Turamen Order. The promise of death will be but a small price to pay for having earned the secret.

Synopsis The Gryphon Taint by : K. M. Frontain

What does a monster with an angel's soul do when a prince comes along to steal his girl? He wants to kill him, of course. When the Gods meddle in the lives of mortals, personal disaster is assured, and disaster is coming for golem, girl and prince. ***** The Gryphon Taint was written to be a nice big read, with romance, with adventure, with trouble, and lots of all three. There is an angel whose soul was rent from his divine body a hundred years earlier, but who is now trapped in the hulking shell of a creature of sticks and mud. There is a girl, born hideously ugly, who may have elvish blood and in whom the Gods have taken a strange interest. And there is a prince whose bloodline boasts a link to a mythical heritage. If so, the girl shares it, for she is his distant cousin through a bastard line. ***** In the land of Ulmenir, where kings boast the blood of gryphons, some things aren't quite as they seem.

Synopsis Mark Twain's Notebooks and Journals, Volume III by : Mark Twain

Volume III of Mark Twain's notebooks spans the years 1883 to 1891, a period during which Mark Twain's personal fortunes reached their zenith, as he emerged as one of the most successful authors and publishers in American literary history. During these years Life on the Mississippi, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court appeared, revealing the diversity, depth, and vitality of Mark Twain's literary talents. With his speeches, his public performances, and his lecture tour of 1884/1885, he became the most recognizable of national figures. At the same time, Mark Twain's growing fame and prosperity allowed him to plunge deeply into the business world, a sphere not suited to his erratic energies. He created the subscription publish firm of Charles L. Webster & Company, Which published the most profitable book of its time, the Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant. And he became the primary financial support for the ingenious but imperfectible Paige typesetter. Within a few years both the publishing company and the typesetter had taxed Mark Twain's patience, and pocket, beyond endurance. The near bankruptcy of the publishing firm and the debacle of the typesetter scheme finally resulted in 1891 in a drastic decision--to leave the house in Hartford, Connecticut, which had long been the symbol of Mark Twain's rising fortunes and idyllic family life, and move to Europe for an indefinite period in the hope of reducing the family's living expenses. The Clemens family would never return to the Hartford house, and the European stay would lengthen into an almost unbroken nine years of exile. Mark Twain's notebooks permit an intimate view of this turbulent period, whose triumphs were tempered by intimations of financial disaster and personal bitterness.
