Synopsis The Crises of the Christ (Classic Reprint) by : G. Campbell Morgan
Excerpt from The Crises of the Christ The authoritative literature concerning the history of the Lord Jesus Christ is contained within the New Testa ment. He is the supreme subject of the whole library. Every several book gathers its value from its testimony to His person, His teaching, or His work. The perfection Of the whole is created by its unification in Him. The first four of its books chronicle His deeds, and His words, during the brief span of a lifetime, lasting for a generation. The rest Of the book is occupied with the subject of His deeds and His words through all subsequent generations. The book of Acts is the first chapter in that history of the Church, which is the history Of the deeds Of Christ by the Holy Spirit through His people. The epistles contain the teaching of Christ by the Spirit, through chosen men, for the guidance of His Church until His second advent. The last book contains a prophetic vision of the final move ments, which shall firmly establish His reign over the whole earth. Excerpt from The Crisis, or an Attempt to Shew From Prophecy: Illustrated by the Signs of the Times, the Prospects and the Duties of the Church of Christ at the Present Period Occasionally discussed the subject, he determined to arrange his thoughts upon paper, and to reduce them to some tangible shape. As he advanced, he found his materials to increase, and the work to. Swell upon his hands; till, at last, it assumed the form in which it now appears. In this form he submitted it at different times to the inspection of several persons, some of whom are much con versant in prophetical studies. Synopsis The Life of Jesus Christ (Classic Reprint) by : Heinrich Ewald
Excerpt from The Life of Jesus Christ Even in the period next after this violent stifling, this mysterious stillness of the new Spirit in the world lasts on until it irresistibly penetrates it ever more strongly, and then soon both Jews and heathens say enough of it, when they had already lost the opportunity of being able to know most accurately about Christ. Thus Flavius Josephus is the only non-christian historian of the first century we possess who speaks of Christ. In the first indeed of his two great works - the history of the Jewish War - he did not speak of Him, he had no need in respect of the principal subject of it. But we cannot see how he, in the Antiquities, should have neglected to speak, however briefly, of Christ and His followers; as there he mentions much far less important, and that work professes to give a general history of the people, according to all its aims, various divisions, and manifold crises. Had he also in this work said nothing of Christianity, that could only be explained from a want of clear views on the subjects which had so completely fettered him, that he preferred to be silent on a matter so imperfectly known to him. He had certainly, when he wrote his work for the roman-greek world, a secret horror of every thing Messianic, and Christianity must have appeared to him, as to all the Jews of his views, something incomprehensible; and' besides, as it was felt how much this last division had injured the Jews, it must have been a subject disagree able and repugnant. But these grounds seem insuflicient for his entirely overlooking it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis The Second Crisis in Christian Experience (Classic Reprint) by : Christian W. Ruth
Excerpt from The Second Crisis in Christian Experience Brother Ruth is so scriptural and clear in his teachings and so cogent in his logic that it would be impossible for any candid man to affirm that he has not proved the doctrine. We bid God-speed to this volume and may it accomplish much for the Master's service. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis Crises in the Early Church (Classic Reprint) by : John Alfred Faulkner
Excerpt from Crises in the Early Church I have been asked to give a brief but adequate discussion of the crises in early Christian history, so that they could be understood by ministers, theological students, and laymen Who might be interested in the origins of their religion - a dis cussion founded on a study of the sources and of modern scholars. This little book is a modest attempt to meet that request. For the sake of those who Wish to verify statements made in the text and to carry on further studies, it has been necessary to add notes; but these have been made as short as possible, and it is hoped that they will not interfere with the pleasure of reading by those Who do not care for them. Brief biblio graphical lists Will be found in an appendix. In that appendix also I have taken occasion to add some information on points referred to in chap ters I and IV, namely, on the authenticity of the Great Commission and baptismal command (p. 160) and on that most interesting movement, Montanism (p.
