Synopsis The Cowboy Rides Away by : Jeannie Watt

Never draw a line in the sand that you don't want crossed... The last person Jason Mann ever expects to cross a line is sweet Meg Marvell, the woman he'd fallen for–and left–two years ago. An accidental meeting has Meg asking for answers, which he'll give if she travels hundreds of miles to her cousin's ranch where he works. Maybe making her go out of her way will help Meg understand that he's not a good guy. His rough past makes it impossible to fit into her world. Middle-child Meg Marvell has spent her life brokering peace and bending to avoid conflict. She lives cautiously, rarely takes risks, steps back when confronted. And she is damned tired of it. It’s time to tackle life on her own terms. Break free. And what better way than to answer Jason Mann’s challenge? He doesn’t believe she’ll travel to her cousin’s ranch to discuss why he disappeared from her life, so she does him one better and hires on. She didn’t want him back—she wants to prove that she can rise to a challenge. Unfortunately, the attraction they once shared has not withered and died as she’d once thought…if anything it’s stronger than ever.

Synopsis When the Cowboy Rides Away by : Molly Noble Bull

Maggie Gallagher, twenty-one, runs the Gallagher Ranch in South Texas and has raised her little sister and orphaned nephew since her parents and older sister died. No wonder she can't find time for romance! When the Cowboy Rides Away opens two years after Maggie loses her family members. Out for a ride with her sister, she discovers Alex Lancaster, a handsome cowboy, shot and seriously wounded, on her land. Kind-hearted and a Christian, Maggie nurses him back to health despite all her other chores. How could she know that Alex has a secret that could break her heart? When the Cowboy Rides Away won the 2016 Texas Association of Authors contest in the Christian western category. In the same year, When the Cowboy Rides Away also placed in the Will Rogers Medallion Award in the Inspirational Western Fiction category. A sweet western romance novel set in South Texas, 1880. I enjoyed the sassy and competent Maggie Gallagher who cares for two orphan children, relations of hers. The complication when Alex Lancaster is found wounded and with a memory loss pulls two strong-willed but likeable characters together. Struggles with witchcraft and intrigues combine with believable relationship conflicts. They must deal with suspicion and mistrust issues when secret, unhappy pasts clash. Good pacing of development of relationships. Appreciated the surprise twist. Janet Chester Bly, author and co-author of 32 fiction and nonfiction books Molly Noble Bull produces another western novel that is so authentic I felt as if I were there in South Texas. I've been there a number of times, and she has the setting perfect. I loved the characters who tugged at my heartstrings throughout the story, and I kept turning pages to find out how it would all end. Synopsis The Cowboy in Country Music by : Don Cusic

This series of biographical profiles shines a spotlight on that special place "Where the West meets the Guitar." From Gene Autry and Roy Rogers to contemporary artists like Michael Murphy, Red Steagall, Don Edwards and Riders in the Sky, many entertainers have performed music of the West, a genre separate from mainstream country music and yet an important part of the country music heritage. Once called "Country and Western," it is now described as "Country or Western." Though much has been written about "Country," very little has been written about "Western"--until now. Featured are a number of photos of the top stars in Western music, past and present. Also included is an extensive bibliography of works related to the Western music field.

Synopsis Near Dark by : Stacey Abbott

First released in 1987, Near Dark is a vampire film set in the contemporary American Midwest that tells the story of Caleb, a half-vampire trying to decide whether to embrace his vampire nature or return to his human family. The film, an early work of the now-established director Kathryn Bigelow, skilfully mixes genre conventions, combining gothic tropes with those of the Western, road movie and film noir, while also introducing elements of the outlaw romance genre. Stacey Abbott's study of the film addresses it as a genre hybrid that also challenges conventions of the vampire film. The vampires are morally ambiguous and undermine the class structures that have historically defined stories of the undead. These are not aristocrats but instead they capture the allure and horror of the disenfranchised and the underclass. As Abbott describes, Near Dark was crucial in consolidating Bigelow's standing as a director of significance at an early point in her career, not simply because of her visual art background, but because of the way in which she would from Near Dark onward re-envision other traditionally mainstream genres of filmmaking.
