Synopsis The Cosmic Eye by : Mack Reynolds
Morris should have functioned perfectly in the rigid totalitarian society of the future where every thought, evey word, every action was controlled by the superstate. A state where everyone was watched night and day by the Great Eye of the internal security forces, It was a strange, in many ways inhuman world, but the rewards were great for those who belonged to the right caste. Morris belonged to the master class which ruled the entire world by brain power or brutality depending on which was needed. Morris was born right at the top -- he had everything the Technate Society could provide -- and yet he didn't belong. Nonconformity could mean liquidation, but he was prepared to take the risk.

Synopsis New Eyes on the Universe by : Stephen Webb
“New Eyes on the Universe – Twelve Cosmic Mysteries and the Tools We Need to Solve Them” gives an up-to-date broad overview of some of the key issues in modern astronomy and cosmology. It describes the vast amount of observational data that the new generation of observatories and telescopes are currently producing, and how that data might solve some of the outstanding puzzles inherent in our emerging world view. Included are questions such as: What is causing the Universe to blow itself apart? What could be powering the luminous gamma-ray bursters? Where is all the matter in the Universe? Do other Earths exist? Is there intelligent life out there? The renowned author explains clearly, without recourse to mathematics, why each question is puzzling and worthy of research. Included in the study of the wide range of sensitive and powerful instruments used by scientists to try and solve these problems are ones which capture electromagnetic radiation and ‘telescopes’ for cosmic rays, neutrinos, gravitational waves, and dark matter. This book discusses twelve areas of active astronomical research, ranging from the nature of dark energy to the existence or otherwise of extraterrestrial civilizations, and devotes one chapter to each topic. Although astronomers tackle each of these questions using information gleaned from all possible wavelengths and sources (and this is emphasized throughout the book), in this work the author dedicates each chapter to a particular observational method. One chapter covers X-ray telescopes for investigating black holes, while another uses infrared telescopes to learn more about planetary information.

Synopsis You With the Stars in Your Eyes by : Deepak Chopra, MD
Spiritual master Deepak Chopra's first children's book tells the uniquely imaginative story of Tara, as she begins her quest for enlightenment. On a cool summer's eve, five-year-old Tara takes a walk on the beach with her grandfather. When he is not quite sure how to answer her questions about love and life, the Moon herself joins in on the conversation. She tells Tara that the stars made our eyes so they could see themselves. She also explains that everyone we see is our own self in a different form. Deepak Chopra's ability to provide powerful truths to people all around the world is unquestioned, but in this book he offers his unique message of healing, hope and peace to children. Matched with the enchanting art of former Disney animator Dave Zaboski, You With The Stars in Your Eyes gives parents a tale they will love to tell and retell, spreading its timeless message.

Synopsis Cosmic Challenge by : Philip S. Harrington
Listing more than 500 sky targets, both near and far, in 187 challenges, this observing guide will test novice astronomers and advanced veterans alike. Its unique mix of Solar System and deep-sky targets will have observers hunting for the Apollo lunar landing sites, searching for satellites orbiting the outermost planets, and exploring hundreds of star clusters, nebulae, distant galaxies, and quasars. Each target object is accompanied by a rating indicating how difficult the object is to find, an in-depth visual description, an illustration showing how the object realistically looks, and a detailed finder chart to help you find each challenge quickly and effectively. The guide introduces objects often overlooked in other observing guides and features targets visible in a variety of conditions, from the inner city to the dark countryside. Challenges are provided for the naked eye, through binoculars and the largest backyard telescopes.
