Synopsis The Corliss Engine by : John T. Henthorn

Excerpt from The Corliss Engine Since the issue of the patent, in the year 1849, to Geo. H. Corliss, for certain improvements in the working of steam-engines, and covering the admission of steam to the cylinder by the combined action of a governor, to determine the point of cut-off at which a liberating valve-gear shall act, and thus allow a certain amount of expansion to take place in the cylinder before the end of a stroke is completed, I think it will be conceded by all fair-minded engineers, when we come to look over the ground carefully, covered by the proposition, that no improvement has been made since that time, up to this date, in the economy of working steam expansively as exemplified by this system. This assumption may be questioned even now by a few zealous persons. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
